hello, first time post here! i have just started looking into EMT programs around the area, I have heard alot of different stories and opinions about alot of places but was wondering if there was a certain one any can recommend? my only concern is that i do have to work part time in the mornings so I can't be going to class every day. ^_^

All depends on what you want out of the programs. Do you want to learn? Be forced to study every night, Have tons of resources in lab? Go To BCC or PBCC emt-b and paramedic programs.

Do you want be spoon feed answers and just basicly know how to pass the fl state tests??.. Go to FMTI,ems academy, city college.... I went to a private emt school and then went to BCC for my medics.

I`m a big believer on if you can teach something to someone you should know it pretty well. If you are given answers and prepped for a test and you only study for xyz and not a-z your limiting your self. In our profession that is that a good thing. Maybe I was just a good student and I learned well but people I run into that went to other schools seem to forget stuff or just don't know it. We also had some of those type of people in are class that barely passed because things were given to them. You need to earn your emt-b and your medic patches... Not be giving the answers to the tests. My Teachers at BCC were hard core.. I studied every night... I blew My nremt-p and my state out of the water.. I can run a code.. I`m sure there other people from other schools that did the same. BCC is also gotten softer from what i`ve heard.. to many people fail because they cant hack it and so therefore they have to lower there standards.. So sad.....

Sorry for my rant..

Check out other programs. BCC offers intubation clinicals, preceptor ship, and other things these private schools don't do. I wont say what school did it but the state requires you do X amount of intubation.. This school doesn't give you any but allows you to sign your name saying you did some....

Also at BCC your can get fincial aide and its thousands of dollars cheaper... Plus you can get your ems degree from bcc..

Good luck and if you have more questions PM me

not a rant at all, thank you. any opinions on broward fire?

Broward fire is great. PBCC fire is great and coral springs is great. Some say there are the best but again... They focus more on the state test then giving you a full range of information... This is what I`ve heard. If your young, single I`d recommend going to FL state fir school

well thats just not really an option. i am young, but not single. and with too many responsibilities to tend to here already, moving is out of the question. i think i've narrowed it down for right now to, BCC, BROWARD FIRE, and CORAL SPRINGS FIRE. i have a day off on monday and i'm hoping to go speak with some people and get more information..

If you arent married then I would give up 6mos to go to the state school.. People get job offers coming right out of there. I BFA and CSFA says they get people hired to out of school but everyone I know that has gone to state has been hired quickly... Again..... I would recommend going to BCC for emt and medics before doing fire... I`ll explain why..

Your fire cert last you two years... You have to volunteer somewhere to keep it up to date.. Right now BSO,PB, and other volunteer squads are on a freeze. PB is on a 1-3 years waiting list for there volunteer from what i have heard.

If you go to medic school before fire you will be able to work and be able to re-cert easier if you can not find a job after fire academy. A lot of people that went to fire academy 2 years ago are finding they have to do there refresher.. I took the county wide last week and it was packed of people that did it a year ago. To become a FF in FL it is going to be ruff.. Even knowing people isnt gonna get you far.. Best bet is find a girl someone in HR in a department and data, marry have kids with them.... So they can get you at least a interview. If you have no military background you are going to be waiting for awhile.. pompano beach needed 8 fire fighters. they had over 2k apps.. interviewed 500.. 380 of them where prior military. Good luck with school and if you need books or anything..PM me... I can sell or give them to you.. I just finshed

Oh BFA offers... EMT as well... There very good.. On Par with BCC.. its jsut a pain in the *** to switch everything to bcc from emt to medic.

why such a pain to switch?

and i knew the job situation was scarce and tough, but i guess i underestimated it, sadly that instills some doubt in me..

tech. BFA doesnt give you college credits. BCC has to evlatuate what you did in emt school and they base your credits off that. It was a huge pain in the *** for me
