This AM, just after midnight, we were dispatched to a pediatric cardiac arrest.

mid-teen female attempted suicide by suffocation.

Bystander CPR, PD CPR, EMS onscene 6 min after call taken.

Initially in PEA, unsure of downtime, poss 10-15 minutes, possibly less.

ROSC after ventilation, intubation, IV, Fluids, 1 Epi, 1 Atropine. Pt. placed in ambulance, transported to closest ED - Probably about 15 minutes onscene time, 5 minute transport time.

During transport, Pt. fought the tube, breathing on her own, appeared to be trying to fight the straps.

Upon arrivial at ED, pupils still fixed & dialated. ED transferred Pt. to local Children's Hospital. Apparently, prior to transfer by helicopter, pt. had a seizure and was posturing...

I initially was going to be riding as a "third" because I was off shift at midnight, but the on-shift EMT was upstairs asleep... I rode as the primary, and she came of the second rig... We rode it in together, and our driver actually handled most of the patient care onscene and wrote the chart... The senior medic had me play gofer and get stuff set up for her (everyone can do CPR... not everyone can do "medic assist" stuff)

I'm still not sure of the outcome on this.

This call was VERY stressful for me... as I said in a prior post, I had a friend kill herself almost 5 years ago... she was the same age then. I am hoping and praying that we saved another family from that situation, but I'm not sure... As we were going to the call, I felt the worst "dread" feeling I've ever had... then I was almost euphoric at the hospital, that it was a save, and looking good... now, hearing about the seizure prior to transfer, I'm wondering what kind of outcome she will have...
