Well , I just finished my second shift in the new ER tech job . It feels good to be back in the saddle , though for now I'm doing more paperwork than pt. care while I'm in training . Gotta get used to 12 hr. shifts again . Going to work late all these years has me spoiled rotten . Getting up early to train on days is kicking my butt . Funny thing , right now we have the largest trout derby in the state of CA in our valley with our population roughly quadrupled , yet today wasn't bad . Mostly routine stuff . Amazingly , despite bad weather , the only derby related pts. we had were a treble hook buried in a finger , a couple chest pains and a couple back strains . It was still busy though . We had a female in her 20's with a pelvic fx . who's been in the ER since yesterday because we can't find a pelvic ortho bed for her . We finally wheeled a regular bed into the ER for her till we can get her out of here . The way things are going , they may have to look out of county . That was a long time to be on a gurney . The only hospital we have here with those facilities has no beds .

Yes , I do plan on being on the lake all day tomorrow and part of monday morning . Lots of money fish out there , among which are 3 worth $ 10,000 !

It is frustrating that every hospital has such growing pains. I can't tell you how many holds that have to stay in the ER due to low bed or no bed status, which in turn lowers the availability of ER beds for the ambulances and patients that come in through triage. We work hard and the system keeps getting harder.

The bummer is that here in kern county , we have a real shortage of hospital bed space , especially where specialty care is concerned . We're the largest county in CA , yet we only have 1 trauma center and 1 burn unit , both at Kern Medical Center . The hospital I work at is a little country hosp. with a 12 bed ER and basic services . Pts. who need specialty care are transfered to Bakersfield , Ridgecrest , or farther . ( at least an hour by ground ) Because of lack of funds , we can't get much specialty care here . We've lost pts. due to difficulties in finding bed space , road closures , and bad weather that medivac can't fly in .

Fishing update - only 1 trout so far , no tags , RATS ! The weather's lousy , high winds and chill factor in the low 30's . Came home to thaw out before hitting it again . I like a challenge .

Fishing!

But did the fish taste good?!! ^_^

We're having them tomorrow night . YUM ! I caught a second one that was pretty nice , about 2 lbs. The bummer is that both fish had small wounds in the right pectoral fin area . The only explaination I can think of for this is somebody goofed and put the tags in the wrong place ( should've been in the back by the dorsal fin ) and they ripped out . These would've been money fish and there's no way to tell how much they would've been worth . They need to keep an eye on the folks doing the tagging . BUMMER !!!! I was only able to fish yesterday because my work decided to have a mandatory meeting this morning and I worked the ER saturday . Oh well , there's always next year !

Something to think about.

"A mans got to believe in something. I believe I'll go fishing" Thoreau?

" A bad day fishing still beats a good day at work"

It's all in perspective.:):)

Fishing!

cert Guy, you need one of those t-shirts that say " Kicken Bass!!" ^_^

One of the things I like about this area is that the fishing's really good even better if you go higher in the sierras toward Bishop . My grandpa got me addicted to fishing when I was little and I've never lost the bug .
