I was wandering if any Paramedics from NYC know what it takes for a Paramedic with IV from Canada (Vancouver, BC) to get into the Paramedic force in NYC??? Up here you can challenge our exams, is it the same down there??
I've tried searching and can't find any specifics on my issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I am completing a NYC paramedic program.

I do not believe a Canadian medic cert holds any significance in New York State or NYC.

You must first be certified by New York State as a paramedic. I have not read about Canadian certs directly transfering into a New York State Paramedic. It is possible, but unknown to me, if you can challange the National Registry medic. If you can, New York State accepts that.

Than you must pass the NYC remac. Reguardless of previous certs held, you must take the NYC remac exam to practise in the NYC 911 system.

Once all of this is completed, you can call FDNY EMS and apply there or any hospital that is a "voluntary" hospital. This soley means they provide ambulances and personnel to the FDNY EMS system.

What lvl of paramedic are you. I heard that bc lumps emr emt and paramedics into paramedics with 3 lvl's
because here in the nwt my agency uses the designations used by the Alberta College of paramedics.

They are
Emergency Medical Responder equal to EMT Basic
EMT equal to EMT I
Emergency Medical Technologist Paramedic equal to EMT Paramedic
