Just curious if anyone here has any experience with King American Ambulance CO out of San Francisco? It appears they are a one of the 911 providers for the city. I'm thinking about applying there and would like to see if I can find out anything about them that isn't on their website? Does anyone know if they run two medics or a medic and an EMT on their ALS rigs? Thanks!

from my understanding, the city is the 911 response. and the other companies are 911 back up. But this is coming from a student, but i can ask a friend, who works in the city

SFFD still does the 911 in the city of San Francisco. AMR and K-A are back ups but that has had its problems.

Their CCT trucks are 2 EMTs and an RN. The other trucks I am familar with are BLS with 2 EMTs.

K-A did have a couple of ALS trucks with at least 1 Paramedic stationed at BART downtown during peak transit hours.

AMR is 911 - ALS for Oakland.

Looks like I might avoid them then... I don't have much interest in going back to a company who's primary game is IFT's. Yuck.

IFT's????

I thought San Francisco Fire was losing their right to provide ALS? Or am I going crazy

Where did you hear this from?
Their response times and quality control has been in the toilet the entire time they have been running since pushing the third-service EMS out years back. Consequently, some court recently ruled that they can no longer have a monopoly. I forget the exact details, but there was an article about it circulating in the last couple of months. SF had some of the best EMS in the entire state throughout the 70s and 80s, but the FD got greedy and told the city they could save money by giving it to them. Now the city regrets it.

It actually made national headlines and was on all the EMS forums as news. But, it is last year's news now.

The bid for the city contract was to be opened to privates. This came after a series of articles where SFFD's response time was supposedly not up to par and there was the opportunity to pass a piece of legislation about SFFD's monopoly. However, none of the companies have been able to step up to the plate and make arrangements for such a project.

AMR has been focused on get the San Mateo contracts.
