So I just got hired at amr here in tampa. I started my orientation today. Orientation consisted of emts as well as wheelchair drivers. The lady during orientation mentioned something about a higher pay scale for VA transports. One of the employees I talked to during my break said it was around 17 dollars and hour during Va transports. He also said that amrs wheelchair drivers run 99% VA calls because of a contract that they have with the local VA hospital. Has anyone ever heard of anything like that? I got hired as an EMT but if they pay like that I may want to consider cross training haha. What are your thoughts?

In a nutshell, your company is required to pay at least what the feds believe is the appropriate wage for your job in your area whenever they transport under a fed contract. If your company normally pays less than the fed requires you get a raise during those transports.

Our EMT's get an extra $5/hour while on VA calls. The medics don't get a bonus, since they're already making that $14/h that the VA finds adequate.
