Ambulance base for party central!

A while ago I posted a news article about Wellington Hospital ED (ER), angry at the amount of abusive drunks in their Dept.
It looks like the Wellington Ambulance Service is setting up a new service to help the hospital out.

...appropriate use of an ambulance service.

I'm not kidding. It shows someone is using his/her head and taking a stab at tackling a problem at its source.

(Okay, it's more like horseshoes then. The source is the acceptance that blind drunk is okay.)

But is it not inevitable that ambulance services begin to expand to include handling, at the scene, what amount to social problems? It will only work, of course, if the ambulances have somewhere else to bring them.

In that respect all they're doing is shifting a burden from the ER to the ambo. A more comprehensive plan needs be developed, one that includes something like Sober-up tanks.

My apologies to the medics on duty, but, to me, it's a start.
