Hello, I am a new EMT in Colorado working for a ambulance company. I would like to continue my education but am not ready for P-school. I am looking into AEMT or P-school prep but am having a hard time finding either. Any tips would help, thank you. Also any good classes/CEU to take would be great.

HealthONE at Swedish used to do a medic prep program. No idea if they still do, but you could check their website and schedule. FWIW, I feel like I should add the obligatory, but true, disclaimer that taking full college courses in Anatomy and Physiology will be better preparation for medic school than anything else. Take the prep course in addition if so desired, but I'd do the college courses if I could only pick one.

I'll repeat what Chaz said and add some emphasis. College level A+P will do you more favors in EMS than any prep course ever will. You need at least BIO 106 to get into most paramedic schools that are worth anything in Colorado. However, completing BIO 201+202 will be infinitely more helpful and gets you a lot closer to having an AAS in Paramedicine. I recommend not wasting your time on BIO 106 and just get 201+202 knocked out.

As far as things to help you out before you go to paramedic school that aren't A+P? Definitely take a basic EKG interpretation course. Almost every EMS academic institution offers a few throughout the year, several agencies offer the course to the public as well. This is a course from HealthONE (Swedish) designed to help you help your paramedic: http://www.healthoneems.com/course_pdf/2014/Paramedic_Assist_Skills_2014.pdf
I've worked with an EMT that has completed this class and I will definitely say that there is a noticeable difference between him and other EMT's. He is pretty on the ball as far as anticipating my needs and is able to do pretty much everything without much direction. I'm not sure if it's the class or if he was going to be that way regardless of the class... Either way it's all I have to go off so I recommend it.

If you have a lot of spare time and money take a 12-lead interpretation course after basic EKG and audit an ACLS class. Both will make your time in paramedic school just a little less painful.
