Sooo...
I finished my EMTB course last quarter, passed registry and got on with a vfd to gain some experience. Right now I'm taking prereqs for A&P, and starting that course load next quarter. My original plan was to finish off A&P, and start paramedic school in the fall. I planned to start medic where I got my EMTB. Last night I found out that this school is not accredited. I looked it up at CAAHEP and it sure isn't. The only school in my state or within driving distance is a private college, about 3 times as expensive, and likely does not take financial aid. Because I'm a po' kid, the government is basically paying me to attend school at the community college that isn't accredited.

It seems like a decent program. EMT students drop like flies because they set it up that you get what you put in - maybe thats bad? There is an application process for the medic program.

I looked in the history about accreditation and found that it definitely is preferable to attend, but how bad is it if you don't go with an accredited school?

Will it hurt my chances to get hired? Will I have to retake the entire course again at some point and time.

I've read 2012 and 2013 is non-accredited shutoff dates with National Registry. If I finish sometime in late 2011, pass National Registry... would there be a possiblity that I would need to retake the course when I renew?

Thanks a lot!

You may want to check with nremt on the recert issue, I would think that you would get grandfathered into recert, but I still say check with nremt. As far as the job market, if you have a medic card, in my area you will get a job. You can quit a job today and have a new one in the morning or at least within a week.

A degreed program is certainly better than a non degreed one. Good Luck.

I'm sure a lot of people would love to know where "your area" is.

Yes that is correct it's Mississippi, within 70 miles of my house, there is 2 large services that have contracts for at least 10 counties each and probably 5 or 6 smaller companies that service 1 or 2 counties.
