I attended NEMSA as a traditional student, and know many that went through the accelerated.
A) Acadian does this medic mill to provide themselves with medics. They are not short, and last I heard they narrowed it down to just the Lafayette site. I attended the Covington site and was there for the last accel class. But anyways, you have to be an Acadian employee at least 6 months with a referral from your supervisor. You can't just sign a contract and dive into it. You can attend it as an outsider and pay, but that brings me to:
B) Its hell, and if you don't work for Acadian I don't see how its possible to financially survive it. I think they provide dorms at the Laffy campus, not sure. You attend school M-Thur (maybe F, can't remember since we didn't go on friday) 8-5 and do clinicals on your off days. The worst part of paramedic school to me was simply the time consumption between class, clinical, and work. It was tiring. My mind could hardly rest- but at least it did rest. You can't rest with this. And with no rest, I dont think the brain can absorb like it needs to.
There's a lot of BS to put up with in NEMSA as it is. Covington site has great instructors and the accelerated class had the privilege of having the best NEMSA instructor exclusively to them. Good medics have come out of it. I was precepted by one of them. But I can tell you it also produces a lot of lemons too. You have to keep in mind this program is to get gold patches in the field for Acadian. Thats it. Its all about passing registry.
