Kameron Davis is a hero in the true sense of the word.
The 7-year-old Hazel Crest boy received a certificate at Tuesday's village board meeting acknowledging the heroic actions he took Sept. 8 when his mother was stricken by a life-threatening seizure.

Fire and inspectional services Deputy Chief John Grady, on behalf of the department, acknowledged Kameron for his decision to call 911, open the door for paramedics and prepare his 6-month-old sister for the trip to the hospital when his mother was unable to do so.

Every now and then there's a situation when a resident or bystander helps out the firefighters and paramedics, Grady said.

"This is a very special situation," he said, noting that the award has been given out fewer than five times.

Kameron smiled proudly as he held his award and received a standing ovation from the near-capacity audience, including a number of the village's firefighters and paramedics.
