So I just completed my first semester of medic school. Frankly, I feel like I didnt retain anything. A lot of medics that I talked to said this was normal, but I still feel unsure. I just want to be a good medic, but I know that really comes with experience. My instructor just sat there and read slides to us. I found myself ignoring him and just reading the book in class and taking my own notes. We all basically taught each other and he didnt do a whole lot I must say. I know some medics who've come out of this program and are really good medics, but it still feels like I'm being cheated here. It was the cheapest program and was close to home so it made sense in the beginning.

Just want to see if maybe this feeling of not knowing anything I learned so far was common or not.

and my grades were good...but if you randomly put me on the spot with a question or scenario...I dont know if I'd be able to answer correctly.

there is a whole section here devoted to scenarios.

give one a go and see.

First of all, give it some time. It takes a while (and constant revision) to sink in.

Also, its your responsibility to turn yourself into a good paramedic. It certainly doesn't help if your program is rubbish, but this is an adult learning environment. Identify the ways you learn best, identify where you need to be knowledge wise and figure out how to get there.

Lots of case studies help too.
