14 Year Old Cardiac Arrest

Maybe I missed it in the article, but did they mention if he got struck during the practice or not? Sad story none the less but with the lack of info its hard to tell if it was from some freak R on T or from a genetic cardiomyopathy of some kind. Terrible story regardless of the circumstances.

From my read, it looks congenital.

I would think the condition they explained was because it is easier for the public to understand than a cadiac hypertrophy, valvular failure, etc.

"Cody Sherrell: The La Center teen who collapsed during a recent basketball practice died Monday night. "We want to thank all of the responders and staff at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center and Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanual for their incredible care of Cody," his parents said in a statement. Sherrell had remained in critical condition after he was brought in last week. "

Piecing together from these lay accounts of hospital news statements, the patient was kept alive for a length of time after a prolonged battle to get his heart back in a viable rhythm.

Our condolences to his friends and family for their loss. If we seems we are totally insensitive to that at times, it is because we strive to learn from every case, and educated conjecture replaces informed discussion when we base it upon newspaper accounts. What we learn from him can keep the next boy or girl alive, perhaps.
