    Another way to get MRSA

If there were an isolation sign or gowns near by would have been a good clue, but that would have been noticed prior to entering the room. It would have been noticed under the scene size up...still very important even in a nursing home. But there was NO indication there was a precaution issue...

    Another way to get MRSA

I have been to many nursing homes. I always stop at the nurses station to get info. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't get any info. I have on numerous occasions been in the room with a patient when staff walks in in full precautions. And that is the 1st time I am informed the Pt has MRSA or...

    Diabetic question

I agree. BLS before ALS. If the Pt can swallow safely, feed them. I had 1 diabetic who told me milk helps get her sugar up. So milk she got and it worked. After I get their sugar back up with whatever I used, I tell them to eat a real meal, more than just a sandwich.

    Paramedic advocacy

I agree that everyone wants but no one wants to pay. I live in New Hampshire and they just paced a state law mandating public kindergarten. Well the town I live in filed against it and won, so they do not have to offer public kindergarten. And the reason they fought it was because the tax payers...

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

I have brought this idea to my education department and there was a discussion over it. They seemed intrigued. They are quite interested in the idea. Have you ever done this technique? I have never nasally intubated anyone..never had a need, so not opportunities for me to nasally intubate...

    Question for NJ Medics

Are the protocols for real? I got a link from someone on these boards. the link is http://www.state.nj.us/health/ems/regs.shtml I was reading the protocols and are they for real? It mentions after starting an IV for IV therapy you need to call med control for which fluid to give. Can...

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

the text book answer is: in between attempts you are supposed to ventilate your pt. it is impossible to properly vent your pt with an ET tube hanging out. so you are supposed to remove the missed intubation that ended up in the esophagus.

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

Yeah I wavered at the end...I had figured I missed something...I even double checked my protocols...lol...but at least in the end I actually had a clue...lol But I like the bougie stick idea...that is a great idea...I actually plan on bringing that idea to my education department... I know 1...

    Air Splints

Working in the Northeast...both New England and in Buffalo, NY...air splints don't work... in the winter when it is freezing temps and the back of the rig where the temp is cranked or in the ER where it is room temp, the temp will screw around with the inflation...goes the same in the summer...

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

OK, now I am confused. I am bringing a strong teaching point to this thread? I am lost...I must have made a wrong turn at Albuquerque. The information I have, which was I was taught in medic school and yes my current protocols as well, is that nasal intubation requires the breath to in essence...

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

I believe you read it wrong...apnea is contraindicated in NASAL intubation... apnea and Endotracheal intubation go hand in hand... below is what I originally stated:

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

As I said previosly... Customer service = perception...end of story...As I said before, you can screw up in front of the family but if you have good customer service they will not lodge a complaint...you can be the best medic in the world, if if you have crappy customer service, complaints...

Keep Mutual Aid Responding, Or Cancel Them?

In my opinion...for whatever that is worth...you made the correct call... The responding chief was most likely agitated...he was a cheif and you made a decision instead of him...and on top of that it was a smart decision...Fire Chiefs hate that...lol

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

Remember Dead is the most stable patient you have. Our job on a code is to try and make them unstable again. Always remember BLS before ALS. Blood goes round and round with CPR and aire goes in and out with a BVM and OPA. ET tubes, IV's, IO's are helpful, but even a Basic can work a code. 1...
