    A Poll: When You're Off-Duty

I always love playing the "lifeboat game" with these types of people to see their responses. They don't deal well with critical concepts like triage. They want to prepare to maintain their situation not adapt to a harsh and unfortunate reality of disaster aftermath.

Preferred type of shirt while working?

Several years ago now while working in a casino as security/EMS I wore a full suit with earwigs and the whole 9 yards. We we're unarmed and barely allowed to touch a patron, but it didn't matter. We we're dressed professionally and we looked the part of bad *** security guard. I've heard...

    A Poll: When You're Off-Duty

I carry a personal first aid kit, a seat belt cutter/window punch, a roadside assistance kit, and a traffic vest. My car has a plate from my volunteer department on the front, we don't run any POV lights here, it's your only distinguishing item. Off duty is would be good Sam laws as long...

    This makes me mad

I'll speak from prior experience, much as many LEOs have disdain for those reports they play a big role in the ability to track distribution of narcotics. It all helps add little pieces to a huge puzzle.

    This makes me mad

There are no studies I'm aware of, I'd imagine that there probably isn't. Often time the calls we have issues with are given with a false complaint, or something similar. That said, we dispatch PD on all deliberate and non-perscription ODs. It's both due to safety and that fact it's also a police...

    100% Directionless Thread

In MD it's a rare instance to have anything other than a trooper flying at a scene. Their controllers handle all requests for air evac across the state. You have to call them first, and get their permission to go beyond their aircraft. However, there is Medstar out of DC, but I don't know...

    Hallucinations... play along?

I'm by no means an expert on it, but to me it's making the best of a bad situation. If it's not their correct name but they still respond to it, I'd use it. It can still get them to focus back on you and not on necessarily what else they are seeing or experiencing. The big thing I've taken away...

    Hallucinations... play along?

In the call center world we're taught the same, to not play along with hallucinations, etc. We're taught to acknowledge it, ie. " I understand you think you're in Mordor", but use grounding statements " Right now you're in xzy, and I'm gonna help you." Another big key point in our seminars is to...

UK Fire Service based ambulance pilot program

"Fire crews in Lincolnshire will be able to take patients to hospital as part of a new pilot to work more closely with the region's ambulance service." http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-27364309 This should be an interesting development to follow.

    Automated Dispatch Nashville, TN Fire/EMS

I'll see your 60 seconds and raise you a fire I had last year... It took almost 5 minutes for all the tones drop... Just in time to start the next alert. Anything greater than a base second alarm here gets real screwy.

    Automated Dispatch Nashville, TN Fire/EMS

Automated dispatch is very useful for us in the comm center. Unfortunately, we don't have it here, but I wish we did. I really enjoy actual dispatching, but it often gets in the way of higher priority issues, ie. ringing emergency phone lines. Even in our little county we will receive 5-35...

Time to go home, take a nap... and decide if I want to run out the remainder of an incident in the field, or just try and make clean break when I get off the radio. Usually I have a good notion of what I want to do... This time I'm still at a loss.

    The Code Green Campaign

I will say it is not the newest or most beneficial, but as kne that doesn't get an opportunity to see an incident and know any sort of outcomes, I find the debriefing process very beneficial.

    The Code Green Campaign

Great page! I don't know if you're doing it or not, but on a similar page for dispatchers, they try to have an admin on about 90% of the time to assist posters. Most of them are experienced veterans with some sort of CISM training or something else.

    Worse malpractices on field

Undisclosed transport company dropped a pt of a gurney during a dialysis run. Dropped them off in their room and told no one... Several hours later pt was transported via 911 after the Dr. at the SNF noticed deformity, pain and shortening of one leg. The SNF had to call the transport agency...
