First responders not providing any Pt care

For expired cert./license, you shouldn't need to go to medical direction. It may seem a bit ruthless, but I've been in charge of making sure everyone's certs/etc. are up to date. I've written to my state and NREMT on two different occasions, due to EMTs knowingly "missing" dates by quite some...

First responders not providing any Pt care

Are you only FR? No medical director? I once knew a place that had that sort of problem. A new medical director put the kibosh on it once he learned what was happening. He did not tolerate unprofessionalism, even from a volunteer service. It sounds like you don't have that avenue.

    Why this is not done!

Well, that's an ultimate facepalm. I met some EMTs who wanted to put metal scoop stretchers over their patients to "calm them down," after which I pointed out the, well, flaws in their plan. They decided it would be best to roll the patient into a prone position and then apply the metal scoop...

    Community council.

In EMT WarGames, is the only solution not to play? :P

    5.11 ATAC 8" boot?

I've had a 5.11 pair that's lasted longer than any others, and they're comfy. I'm very surprised, given where they're made, but they seem to consistently be good. I would recommend them as well.

Should your jacket be black or green?

(Green) I dress up like a ninja so that shooters can't target me. I also only carry supertactical black Statpacks IV modules. Can't give myself away. This little graphic represents how I look from the shoulders up:

What do hospitals do for you?

3 hospitals. #1: EMS lounge with mini-fridge, desktop computer (And a nice one, at that.) with internet, private bathroom, and comfy seats. This one has the most "permanent benefits." #2: Free employee restroom use, very nice staff (the RNs always know me by name and give me all sorts of...

    Whacker backpack/sling?

My backpack is four years old and from Target. Get a cheap item used to carry things with straps that loop around so that it can be carried on the human back. If you do pass and get a job, consider getting a foam insulated cooler pack if you're going to bring your own perishable lunch...

    OK - So I'm done.

Interesting. I say that a lot, as it is bland and unoffensive. I come to this site mostly to read and learn, to see what mistakes others make and how to not make them myself. The site has changed since I began lurking; it seems as if there was some sort of pre- to postlapsarian event. I've...

    Pro-Transport (bay area)

You're wrong. Unions were once useful; not we have OSHA and many safety regulations. There is no longer a need for unions. Unfortunately, I still remain intimately familial with them. Regarding the oft-said line about management, I have worked in some of the worst environments. Then I...

    Pro-Transport (bay area)

Unions are archaic in this day and age.

Stretched ears in the EMS profession

Indeed correct. Do it and you'll make someone's life easier when applying for the good jobs.

    CPAP = code 3?

I imagine this has already been stated, but code status should be implemented based upon its ability to benefit the patient, regardless of what other tools are being used.

    American Medical Responce?

Like others said, it really depends on what the regional direction is like, and how the independent divisions are handled. I worked with some well educated people, but some of the supervisors were barn-trained drama queens. I also made a whole lot per hour for a basic, but I know that I was...

Grandfather weighing 30 stone 'died after falling off paramedics' stretcher'

Neither. It was the sudden stop. *duck* Someone had to say it. Ok, I'll leave now.

    AMR Disaster Response Team

Yes. If you are employed by AMR, you basically have a chance of going. An AMR region where I worked generally picked who went based upon how much they wanted to go, how much they were liked by the company, and how long they'd been with AMR. A lot of people like going because it's a change...

    EMT/Medic Gamers

Yes! Otherwise, almost completely all PC. I'll kill people on XBOX if they bring it. I play and have played a ton of different ones, such as FS2004 (Heavily modded.), Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, Mount and Blade, Portal, Civ IV, Total War, Rainbow Six, Thief (All.), Carnivores (a stupidly fun...

    Rural Transport Decisions

I would not want to be 30 minutes from skillsets and equipment above paramedic, so I would go to the local. EDIT: Haven't had the time to read the thread. :(

    Rural Transport Decisions

Go to trauma-receiving for whatever services they can provide. They can then call whether or not to send advanced care onward to the large trauma facility or rendezvous with another service. This is assuming that the responding crew in this area is without a Paramedic.
