How would you feel about this?

Scores in my class were public. I had no problem with it, but part of that probably was because of my rank. The harder issue, whether the instructor tells you to or not, is how much to help other students. For me, if the student seems to be sincere and trying hard, and is just confused over...

What do you spend a year for License Fees etc...

I didn't see med malpractice insurance in the poll or the thread (I only skimmed the thread). It's not bad for an EMT-B ($100-$200/year). Do most of you have it provided through your employer?

Getting in touch w/ EMTs in San Francisco

IMO, EMT-B is a stepping stone, not so much of a career in itself. The pay isn't enough to really survive on, especially in the Bay Area. But it is a great way to get into EMS, and then keep working toward Paramedic or PA or RN, etc. It's also a great way to find out if you enjoy the EMS...

EMS Medical Director pulls 18 more ALS certs (Paramedic privileges) from FFs

I disagree on your generalization, and I don't think this thread is about your generalization. In my area, the FF/EMT-Ps get lots of action, as the first responders to dispatch. I've worked shoulder-to-shoulder with them as an EMT-B, and they know their stuff. They are the paramedics on-scene...

    Where were you?

Just arrived at work in Silicon Valley, Cali (rode in on a sportbike, no radio). I'm one of the principle leads of our work volley ERT group, so I was contacted pretty quickly. We were far enough away from the focus of the attacks that we didn't need to activate, but the news and that day...

    Self-Defense and EMS

If you are (you're) a police officer and you are (you're) on scene, and the police left, how could you still be there?

    I'm buying a window punch.

Front and rear window glass on cars is very strong. The officer's club should have worked fine on a side window. And yes, I do carry an EMT window puch with my Leatherman.

Miami Officer Gets Surgery While in Cruiser

Thanks, Vent. Good teamwork. Great EMS on-scene, and it sounds like he's a very talented doc.

Kentucky EMT Indicted on Murder Charges after Crash

Fair enough on the question. Not on my shift.

    Just saw an AMR commerical...

Um, it wasn't a commercial for consumers convincing them who to dial direct.... It was a recruiting commercial. Be all that you can be.

Kentucky EMT Indicted on Murder Charges after Crash

Jeezus, Vent. Why do you use the term "rat" in your question? The answer in this case is pretty obvious. Is there something you want to tell us?

    Dramatic car crash rescue

Agree completely. Too many times you see bystanders trying to brave flames on a car that you can put out (or knock down) with a 10-pounder or two. Stupid. Just stay up-wind...

    NBC this fall

You know Trauma is going to be BS, when their tagline is, "Most people run away from danger. We run into it!" Run in -- good strategy.

    AMR Hiring Question

AMR has a mixed reputation among the medics that I know, but I don't think any of them would say what you said. Do you have a grievance against AMR? How long have you worked for them as a paramedic?

    Dramatic car crash rescue

Here it is. Please don't consider every small car fire an explosion risk. Myself and my FTOs have never had a small car fire blow up on us. Just put it out and deal with it. Big car fires require an Engine with lots of water. Small car fires just take a 10 pound extinguisher or two, and...

    Uncooperative c-spine patients?

Another related incident -- guess I need to learn more EMS-related Spanish... 30 y/o intoxicated Hispanic male does a hard face plant on concrete at an event I'm working. I take manual C-spine while my partner starts the exam and vitals, but neither of us are fluent in Spanish, so we could...
