Hosting and working marathons makes the elderly die quicker

This is some sort of public safety fascism. Please take some time off from work in order to regain a more balanced perspective on life.

Owning pets with our sh*tty schedules...

I wouldn't get a pet in your situation (because I care about animals and put their well-being ahead of my wants). My GF and I have 2 cats, but only because she works a 9-5 job.

Severe Mental Illness and Working in EMS

I've heard of entire stations/depts faking ADD so that they can pop amphetamines like candy and work more OT, but I don't see any reason to believe that we have higher rates of ADD or anything else than the general population.

Severe Mental Illness and Working in EMS

The obvious answer is a loud, resounding, "NO". Would you want someone with "severe mental illness" responding to your emergency? Of course not.

I have genital herpes. Will this affect my chances of getting hired as an emt?

It is spread through direct contact with the sores (or skin near affected area). No semen or vaginal secretion exchange needed. Not that that would affect the advice given here... Also, it seemed pretty obvious to me that the OP last refered to sexual partners, not work partners.

    Help An Author

Forgot to mention that the first unit on scene would call for a second transport unit (if available) and just take the more critical of the two patients first.

    Help An Author

What is the answer you're looking for? In most cases, they would all just ride to to the ER together, unless the less injured one really doesn't want to be treated and has a parent agree to a refusal (possibly over the phone). And if the latter happens, she would still probably choose to ride...

    Vomiting Blood During Full Arrest

Why do people call it a "full arrest" rather than "cardiac arrest"? Is there such a thing as a partial arrest (respiratory maybe)?

    Wearing bunker/turnout pants?

Nomex is the trade name for a flame retardant material made by Dupont. It's called a fire hood (which, like most fire gear, features Nomex).

    Wearing bunker/turnout pants?

We also have blue turnout gear. We're supposed to wear it for extrications, but I've only worn the jacket when I had to wash the truck in the cold :)

If I am 22 and never had a gf, is working EMS making it more difficult?

There's this thing called the internet that nullifies all your excuses. Seriously, internet dating is crazy easy (unless you're ugly, I guess).

    EMS Internship Spain

These sorts of programs are not common. Especially not in countries with first responders trained to a much higher level than our EMT-B.

    Work "spouse"

My medic a few years ago would call me her work husband...to her boyfriend...who then began working for us. It made me a bit uncomfortable (I was in a relationship as well, and my girlfriend did not like this girl). So no, I don't think it's a good idea unless you're both single. And even...
