    Another way to get MRSA

I'm more concerned about getting MRSA at the gym than from the NH PT with MRSA.

    Using in car GPS

I refuse to get a GPS. I LIVE by my mapbook. I did chair car for 4+ years off and on. I was in a van by myself. In 2003 no one thought of buying GPS's, so I had to use my mapbook all the time when I first started. I would get lost which helped a lot. All calls were non-emergent so it...

Well there goes my social life!!

Where are you doing your program? You'll still have a social life, it will just be less and less and less over the course of the class.

    Medic Students!!!

ANOTHER TIP FOR CLINICALS: DO NOT MESS THINGS UP FOR OTHER CLASSMATES AND MEDIC STUDENTS IN OTHER PROGRAMS!!!!!! When a nurse/preceptor asks you: 1} what skills do you need? 2}Why do you guys come to this department? NEVER NEVER NEVER say I don't need anymore skills because I have all...

    Medic Students!!!

The OR I was in the staff was not nice to me or my classmate that was in there another week. We were outsiders and were treated like such. They didn't want us touching patients other than to tube and they didn't even want us there for that. I was lucky if I got a tube a day. They relied on...

    Ambulance Driver's License (ADL)

I'm pretty sure he's talking about a cert to specifically drive an ambulance, separate from teching calls. A cert in addition to an EMT ticket. Some states like Vermont and New York you do not need an EMT cert to drive the ambulance, so technically, those are ambulance drivers.

    Down Time on the Job

I study for my medic, class, read books, watch tv, sleep, computer. Depends on the time of day and our location. If its during the day, we are most likely posted in the truck. Evening, usually post at a base. Overnights, post at a base, sleep. Sleep isn't in the job description as one...

    Stolen ambulance

I'm thinking of taking the keys with you...? A lot of trucks have idiot switches in the grills or above the plate in the back.

    Urban v. Suburban

I don't know about that. Boston EMS has new equipment, granted, it is a city service.

    Hey There! Question.

look at men's sizes, you might find the size you need. They also fit differently. A majority of women at my company wear the men's pants instead of the female ones. Bauer pants at 60+ dollars, comfortable and durable. I think you can get a cheap pair at galls or something. Stick with a...

Anyone else hate needles? (past or present)

you'll get over it fast. I don't mind sticking people but I still can't watch myself getting a shot or giving blood. Don't ask.

    Medic Students!!!

codes are definetly a small part of Ems but when it rains it pours. I had my first code back in march with a partner that went to medic school and left before clinicals. We just just happened to be there when it happened. It went smooth, we didn't freak out, we got ALS super fast. This could...

    Medic Students!!!

The OR i basically like that, but you have to be careful where you sit. Don't sit in the break room or anywhere out of the way. Some anesthesiologists[spelling?] actually don't mind medic students there, so if they do an interview and realize someone is a tube they will grab you. A lot of...

    Medic Students!!!

We were supposed to have AMLS and PALS a long time ago, but scheduling mishaps and busy schedules kept that from happening. As for clinical hours, way too much, or at least it feels that way. I have no problem with that though. I can't give you an exact number of hours, but I can break it...

    SD BLS = dialysis - 3 questions

Dialysis = money. That is all. The gourney transport thing you speak of, the only state I can think of that does something remotely close is NY.

    Medic Students!!!

I have two weeks of clinical time left! Next week and the week after. Then two weeks of class after that for PALS and AMLS and skill reviews before our class heads to NYC for our ride time. It has been a long year.
