    Triage Question

From an ethical and legal perspective I would treat this as an MCI if you have more patients than immediate resources to care for them. A brief triage is necessary before you can decide how to care for all of the patients. We know that straying from appropriate triage algorithms statistically...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

Unless you have more than one log in, I didn’t call you out on anything. You replied to a statement I made to another poster.

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

No need to be so defensive. The post that I had quoted essentially said I’ll do what I want don’t tell me anything without any form of evidence or rational behind their decision making. A professional should be able to separate their political frustrations and the ability to interpret data...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

I agree. How dare those of us who have education in statistical analysis, epidemiology, public health, drug development, and so on make a recommendation based on our knowledge and experience. 🙄

We are scheduled for our 2nd dose deliveries of the pfizer vaccines.

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

I suspect part of the reason they want to push on a strict dosing regimen is to make it easier to manage the logistics. It’s a lot easier for a system to know to prepare 1000 doses that are only stable for 5 days if you know your staff has a 4 day window to get it.

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

We are doing 17-21 days, although that may be with the primary goal of accelerating disease resistance in critical care staffing

    mRNA Vaccine

Correct. In future development we may find a more stable method of delivery, but I doubt it will be anything that is fine at room temp.

    EMT to Nurse path

Yeah I try to conceal that a bit, probably not as well as I would like. A community college may have a cheaper rate, lets say for a nursing course you are looking at 250/hour instead of 350. If that only covers the first 90 or so hours then the cost difference would be $3000 assuming you only...

    EMT to Nurse path

You might save some money in a community college over a public university for the core RN classes, but most nursing programs even in community colleges have a higher rate per credit hour than most other classes.

    EMT to Nurse path

Depends on the program. It will usually be cheaper to get a BSN from a good public university than to do one of those online RN to BSN programs.

    EMT to Nurse path

The bulk of HEMS is IFTs, and in most flight programs the nurse is used to provide more ICU type care the field/ED care. Medic may earn you an advantage, but it isn't going to replace the need to critical care nursing experience. The need for a BSN is regional, but in competative markets it can...

    mRNA Vaccine

mRNA, also known as messenger RNA, is used in eukaryote cells as a way of sending information from the DNA in the nucleus to the ribosome to be made into protein. As a fairly oversimplified explanation most vaccines show a dead or weakened form of a virus or bacteria in order to build an immune...

    EMT to Nurse path

Not really. Most healthcare professionals have a very limited understanding of the difference between EMS provider levels. From an application standpoint for school or to a critical care unit the difference is minimal and if your goal is to be a critical care nurse probably not with the time or...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

We suspect that a large number of staff working on one of our units, myself included, got exposed to COVID 19 in late February/early March. We all tested negative on RVPs but I was coughing and fatigued for over 3 weeks. At the time the same source patient we took care of didn’t meet the...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

We have a vaccine for H1N1, it is included in your annual flu shot. H1N1 is also now endemic which is why it is covered in routine administration. At this point SARS 2 will most likely end up being endemic as well. SARS 1 and MERS had a different symptom profile which garnered a much different...

It has surprised me how many healthcare providers are coming out as not being willing to participate in the vaccine. Never had a meme been so true.
