Adminstering Nitro w/out a line in place

Hope they don't code. Try and get the IV access that I should have had in the first place. Wonder why I chose to give a medication that hasn't been demonstrated to improve long term outcomes but has been demonstrated to provoke rapid hypotension in some patients without getting IV access...

    precordial lead placement obese/large breasts

You mean do a cut down? Seriously, I think you're asking where you should place them on someone large-breasted or obese? Typically at the margin where the breast attaches to the chest wall, just inferior to the breast itself. With someone super-obese you may have to compromise a little...

Me too. I landmark properly every time. It takes seconds when you're familiar with it.

Why Are 12-Leads Not Required For School Physicals

Here's another (less well written) blog post: http://drwes.blogspot.se/2012/05/dark-side-of-ekg-screening-in-athletes.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+blogspot/TuRAx+%28Dr.+Wes%29&utm_content=Google+Reader

    Alberta Class 4 License

Once upon a time, you did have to know a lot about school buses for the knowledge test, which used to be guaranteed to include questions about things like: * Are you obliged to stop at an uncontrolled crossing? * Can an ambulance, police truck or fire truck pass a school bus with its lights on...

    Carrying Oxygen

    * Combustion is the reaction of a fuel with an oxidising agent. In the case being discussed: (bunch of organic stuff with lots of carbon and hydrogen) + O2 --> CO2 + H2O + extra energy * Oxygen is not a catalyst. If it was a catalyst, it would not be consumed by the reaction, i.e...

Adminstering Nitro w/out a line in place

A quick point to make here --- relief or reduction of pain with nitrate administration is not proof positive that the pain is of cardiac etiology. Nitroglycerin will also remove pain of non cardiac origin, e.g. that associated with smooth muscle spasm.

Sorry if I've derailed the thread a little.

    Paramedic Practitioners

I agree, to a point. I think when you start getting into higher level courses you need someone who can evaluate the current literature critically, and teach someone how to be a researcher. For biosci or physics, or most science disciplines, it's going to be hard to find people without a PhD...

    EMT Alberta Licensing Exam Prep

Honestly, I'm not sure. As you suggest, the general public doesn't really care about the level of service they're receiving. They just remember whether you appeared professional and were nice. On the other hand, if you had police officers without guns, or firefighters without the ability...

    EMT Alberta Licensing Exam Prep

I agree that this is generally undesirable, but a better alternative than having no transport capability in some remote areas. This varies a lot though, right? And if your region's idea of what makes a paramedic is someone who already has an EMT licence, then has done another couple of...

    Paramedic Practitioners

I don't think we're actually disagreeing here. A PhD is the entry-level qualification to be considered a researcher, or an academic. A lot of people within the academic community wouldn't consider someone fully trained until after completing a postdoctoral fellowship or two, and even then...

    EMT Alberta Licensing Exam Prep

Maybe they should, if the rest of the country is doing it. But I also don't understand the push from a lot of EMTs to be able to call themselves paramedics. One of the advantages to restricting the term "paramedic" for an advanced level provider, is that it makes lobbying for an extension...

    Paramedic Practitioners

I would argue that the universities should focus more on the educational part of their role. Because, let's face it, right now teaching isn't very important to the career of an average postdoctoral fellow or tenured researcher. It's largely seen as an inconvenience, and something that...

Far superior for eating cold to lukewarm soup, though. Might be a draw with hot soup.

how do nutrient get to cells of veins and arteries?

Yes. But I would imagine that the relative contribution of the gap junctions is quite small. That's a guess.

    Resistance to pain medication

Here's a news article from the BBC, about the use of fentanyl as an illicit drug in Estonia. It's not particularly well written, especially from a scientific perspective, but I found it interesting. (Not quite sure about statements like "after fentanyl you just don't feel heroin any more", or...

    Looking for some advice....

Another vote for job #3. If you have the chance to go and be immersed in another completely different culture, go and do it. I've never worked in the Middle East, so take this for what it's worth. I have bounced around a little in other places. I'd suggest making an effort to learn as much...

how do nutrient get to cells of veins and arteries?

There's a good resource for histology here: http://www.courseweb.uottawa.ca/medicine-histology/english/cardiovascular/histologybloodvessels.htm And this paper reviews vasa vasorum, but you may need a university computer to access it. Pm me, and I might be able to help...

    "Obama Care" versus wishful thinking

Sorry, I screwed up the quote tags on my last post, and it looks like I said these things, that were originally said by Linuss. My apologies.
