    Summer Paramedic Course

I don't see how a person could even process that much information in one semester. The program I'm in is 15 months, four nights a week, 6:00-9:00 (and that is the "accelerated" program; the regular program is 18 months, three nights a week). All of our CEU courses here are one semester, however.

"American Military University" (AMU); anyone use it?

AFAIK is "as far as I know", but I can't tell if that was humor or not :) APUS is the actual university system, AMU and APU are schools within that system. APUS is the one with the accreditation, and the two schools are bound by that accreditation. This is similar to UMUC's model (UMUC...

"American Military University" (AMU); anyone use it?

Ah, I just read what your actual question was. :P AFAIK, AMU and APU are part of American Public University System (APUS). This is a for-profit higher education entity, with both regional and national accreditation. I finished a BA with AMU and I am working on a MPH with them now, but I also...

"American Military University" (AMU); anyone use it?

I will be finished with AMU's MPH in emergency management next year, and I have been satisfied with the school. I was wary at first of a completely online entity, but my med school adviser (who is also on the admissions board for a school I'm applying to) said that AMU/APU is fine because of...

    emtb and er tech

I'm not in that area, so this info could be completely wrong, but here is the median wages for a Basic (U.S.) based on years of experience. Since rates can differ from place to place (I would think that Dallas would be higher than the median, but I have no idea), this info may be/is completely...

    Drug screening for EMS cert/school

If your thesis is that, in the United States, certain intoxicating drugs are given disproportionate popular attention compared with other drugs (e.g. marijuana vs. alcohol), I would definitely agree. I think that the point eveningsky339 was making (correct me if I am wrong) concerns the...

    Drug screening for EMS cert/school

Just an interesting side note: ^_^ Drug screening is mandatory for all of the University of South Alabama's EMS programs (Basic, Medic, CC, and degree programs), and a significant portion of the university's budget is derived from taxes (it's a state school). The governor is the president of...

    Surgical Airways

In southern Alabama we can't do surgical airways. We can't even do needle crichs, although that might be a service specific restriction.

Field administration of steroids for known or suspected SCI

This question may have been covered already; if it has been then I apologize :). In trauma assessment last night, my medic class was going over spinal cord injuries. We've seen a lot of conflicting information from different sources regarding corticosteroid administration in the field for a...

The FEMA ICS courses are required now for all 7th Fleet first responders based on paygrade (at least, they are at my command :P ). You can get a transcript from FEMA listing the courses you completed (as well as the ACE recommended college credit / course) as well. If you would like some ICS...

    68W training

If you don't mind, my unsolicited advice is this: Be very, very well-researched regarding your enlisted VS officer options. I am in the last two months of my five year enlistment (with separation orders in hand) and my one regret is that I made a series of extremely impulsive decisions when I...

Japanese Man Dies After 14 Hospitals Refuse to Take Him

I have lived in Sasebo, JA (in Kyushu) for nearly four years now. The state of the local EDs here (the only part of non-military medicine I have seen personally) is simply atrocious. PPE is virtually non-existent and everything is simply filthy; when I provide escorts for our medical department...

    Restraining Psyche Patient

When I went through LE Academy, we were taught to avoid close contact with anyone brandishing a weapon, period. The only exception being that the suspect pulled a weapon after you let him/her get to close to you (i.e. inadequate scene safety); you have no choice then, obviously. I have not...
