    Mutual respect

Its nice to play nice, but when someone refuses to listen sometimes you have to slap the sense into them; or at the very least enough that they shut up.

Is this for some joke contest? Or do you really want to be a wacker? Google radio chest harness.

FACTS ONLY: violence and death by violence in EMS

I dont the nremt will get you much, since they handle testing. I bet any figures you have are under reported. How much has osha and like organizations gotten involved in safety regulations when.you are in the back(the real dangerous aspects, ie the need for forward facing seats, seatbelt use, ect)

What do you guys bring to eat when you ride ?

We share a building with the towns police. So we normally cook big meals to share twice a day. Breakfast is normally a coffee/doughnut/bagel run. If either of us or both get called out we have a shared secretary/receptionist that puts it away for us.

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

Setup - it has quite awhile since I have used a glidescope, but the service I was on that had it kept it in this big bulky pelican case(first mistake) with all its supplies. If I remember correctly, there was a blade cover to take off, and a write to screw on/connect, as well as waiting for the...

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

You can equip several supervisors vehicles with glidescopes (est at 10,000 each) but cannot get waveform cap or even cpap? Somethings not adding up. IMO glidescopes have no place prehospital. There are much cheaper more portable options that require no setup time.

    Rural versus urban (yes again!)

Why not? While in most cases we may not get to them as quickly as some urban ambulances (because of distance traveled or terrain), which is even debatable depending on the city. I assure you we provide as high and likely higher levels of care (read: education) than them. Just because a service...

    Rural versus urban (yes again!)

True for everything except that they have a lower level of training. My service is very rural. Is a paramedic service. Only highers degreed medics (min AAS).

    University of Iowa paramedic program

I did not specifically say anything bad about it, just that you recieve no college credit and it is a pain to transfer to a degree program.

    EMT-B to EMT-I???

Check into what your state is doing for te new scope first. I know in my state the emt I is no longer offered. Current I's will have to take further education or be dropped down a level (aemt or b).

    University of Iowa paramedic program

I did not go through it, but looked into it. The faculty is good, and you have fantastic resources as well as clinical sights by being at the U of I. Cons - it is only 16 weeks, not including clinical time. Non degree. Tough to work during since it is 7 to 5 mon thru fri. Its also like 7k. I...

To those who don't want to make EMS a career, what do you plan on doing

I would love to get more involved with research at some point. A medic I used to be partnered with started what is now a national cpr training company, as well as a supplier for AEDs. Another does product design and improvement for an EMS equipment supplier.

    Police response to EMS calls

Generally everything if they are available. Then again we provide the tac medicals for the town pd and sheriffs ert, and share a building with town pd. Never had a problem with it from patients or family. Police are good about leaving if we are asking questions about drugs or the like. They know...

    Advice needed. bad first day.

I hope that this was not a shot at me. To hotelco -- just because one should not be overwhelmed for clinicals does not mean it does not happen. Many ems agencys and hospitals let anyone precept ems students. How many students have you had or seen that are ill prepared for clinicals?

    How Stressful Is 911?

It will quickly lose its stress or 'excitement'. There will come a point when the 'major' calls are no longer major. You will learn that you will do the best your experiance, knowledge, and education allow you to.

    Advice needed. bad first day.

I was not stating overwhelmed with emotion specifically. And I am in no way calling anyone a liar, but not even during clinicals, or any aspect of your careers/education/training have you been overwhelmed? With the task at hand, scope of the incident, your emotions, anything? I was just trying...

    NG Tubes and Airway Management

I never started they were. I was just starting that it was odd that the OR only uses LMAs as a backup while The ER only uses Kings. In the age of cost cutting you would think they would just use one or the other. Im sure each director just has his/her opinion on which is better.
