    Using tape/voice recorders

I agree with DT4EMS. It's a bit of a doozy. Personally, I write it on the back of my gloves. It doesn't work well with latex or vinyl, but the purple nitriles we have work great! I think those stickers would do well on the top of your kit - It'd be a pain for me on the leg. Plus, a kit can be...

That makes perfect sense. I was faced with another situation about a year ago. I was at a park playing ultimate frizbee with some friends. I see a comotion go on in the tennis courts about 50 yeards away, and I hear some crying and someone saying "Call an ambulance!" I then make my way over...

    EMS in Canada

In Edmonton or Halifax? Edmonton - It's great! The climate is very temperate - going from needing A/C in the summer to -30C, but you get used to it (Rigs here run 24/7 if they aren't in a heated station). We have dozens of river valley parks and trails (which I'm currently doing SAR in...

    EMS in Canada

Heh - we'll go with that. Hey, just a random question - in the northern states, you don't see the Aurora Borealis, do you? In Edmonton, we get it every now and then in the summer months. Usually we only see green and blues, but the dancing waves of color are absolutely stunning! If anyone...

    EMS in Canada

Sera, Please see the other thread... Hopefully it will help! PM me if you have any more questions. As for the dog-sleds... Keep dreaming! Canada, untrue to popular belief, is just as civilized and developed as the rest of the western world. I remind you that the ISS wouldn't be possible w/o a...

    PCP vs EMT

Sera, I'm a First Responder in Alberta Canada. I know the systems are different - even in two provinces, but here's a brief rundown of the system. Medical First Responder (MFR) (Non-regulated, 48h) (Stateside - AFA? (HELP!?!?)) -Standard First Aid -Airway Management (OPA, NPA, BVM, O2...

True, however, if the patient is unconscious, how can you "assist?" Back to my point regarding auto-injectors. I've seen auto-injectors for insulin carried by diabetics in case of diabetic emergencies, and I've seen people confuse it for epinephrine - giving insulin through the thigh to a...

That's a pitty. Personally, the world is to caught up with liability and legal battles to really care about the bottom line. You aren't truly liable in Canada unless you: 1) Start assesment and treatment and leave the patient without handing over care of the patient to a person with equal or...

    Ethics Thread

Point taken... I've got to say, I'm not entirely used to being a FR, so I'm still thinking latterally outside of a medical situation. As for your question - Regardless of wether or not one is on call - one does have the legal obligation as a uniformed EMS responder to provide assistance. One...

    Ethics Thread

Heh - I guess the systems really are alot different in the US and Canada... In Canada, first aiders are taught to assist conscious patients with medications. They are specifically told that unless there is written consent from the patient or the patient's parent/guardian it is illegal to...

CONSUMER ALERT - EMT alert card is a scam

Okay, I'm not a forum administrator, but I think it's in everyone's best interest if personal questions and attacks are stopped. It's against forum rules, and it's only going to lead to more problems in the furture. Some people have expressed their views on the product/service, and others...

Wow... LOTS of interest... Hey all! I think this Ethics sub-forum test is a bit of a flop... Here's something I hope will get it going! Scenario: You are in the wilderness, hiking with your best friend. There's no cell phone service and it's a 1/2 hour hike back to your car where you...

    Scenario time.

o/a - assess a+o, ABC's, vitals, drugs taken + approx vol. Start O2 @ 8LPM on an NRB, check sugars. If avail, ask BLS to start a line for fluids/diabetic substances & start 3-lead ECG. Monitor vitals and activate ALS. Prep for ALS transport and document. The standard FR's route!

    Ethics

I totally agree. Ethics is a wonderful thing, but can be very touchy. Judging from the conversation in these forums to date, I believe there can be some highly intellectual conversation going on. I also agree that baby-steps should be taken, to ensure there is enough interest and that the...
