Is it normal to be treated bad by your FTO?

This thread does still have some valuable conversation on it, and it's not like crappy preceptors/fto(s) are going anywhere. I licked the boots of my crappy preceptor for 3 months straight. Was constantly demeaned, and berated for not knowing EMS slang terms, and illnesses that went far beyond...

    the 100% directionless thread

I often forget about the American blood glucose metric. To us in the rest of the world a blood sugar of 30 mmol/L (540 mg/dl) would be cause for alarm lol.

EMTs and Paramedics in the Hospitals

Perhaps a bit more in the initial training but realistically initial training is certainly more traditional EMS training. Most of us that work in the ER have to take band aid classes to supplement our lack of knowledge. Wound care, training on basic lab equipment, Urinary Cath placement (one...

EMTs and Paramedics in the Hospitals

This is a nice way of describing Paramedic involvement in hospital where I am. I live and work in Canada and the physicians assistant is a rare sight in any province (prominent in the military). Critical Care paramedics or Advanced Care Paramedics often fill this role to some extent. This is...

    Laptop For EMT training?

Also be sure to find out what your program utilizes for clinicals. Some utilize programs such as Comtracker to keep track of skill sign offs and such, and were best suited for use on a tablet. Don't want to spend money on one item that you don't need. I for one need to see things in my own...

    Is the Fentanyl Problem Overstated?

My least favorite line used by media is... " FENTANYL is 50-100 times more potent than Morphine". Yeahhhh that is why Fentanyl it is dosed in micrograms and Morphine is dosed out in milligrams...

    Paramedic or LPN???

Any chance this hospital has set a precedent of assisting LPNs who wished to upgrade to RNs? This should certainly factor into your choice, as I doubt any would consider a Medic to RN tuition reimbursement. I have a poor understanding of LPNs job opportunities in the states (from Canada where...

    the 100% directionless thread

I prefer playing cards with the nurses in my downtime. I do a fair amount of scene calls for flight so I end up starting the second line fairly often. Certainly doing far fewer now that I do flight than when I was on car.

    the 100% directionless thread

https://litfl.com/stroke-thrombolysis/ PUBLISHED TRIAL RESULTS Alteplase 12 controlled trials have been published on the use of thrombolysis for stroke (mostly using alteplase aka recombinant tissue plasminogen activator) 2 of these RCTs found a benefit as defined by primary outcome measures...

    The Future of EMS

Awesome point of care tech that will greatly increase our ability to pre alert hospitals of... EVERYTHING. Most of this is already in the prehospital world in some manner but costs will continue to drop with time. Broadening of scope outside of emergent care. Community care, Palliative care...

EMTs and Paramedics in the Hospitals

I am a Canadian medic who worked part time in a rural ED in Saskatchewan, and now work remote flight (ED when we are not flying). The sites chosen for EMS involvement are call CEC or Collaborative Emergency Centers. Many of these site including my first ED job where EDs that had been shut down...

    Paramedic equivalency in Canada

I did my Primary Care Paramedic in Canada, and then my EMT-P in the states (live near the border). It was a bit of a hassle and the skills are roughly the same but there is no question that there is far more didactic schooling as part of both the PCP (Primary Care Paramedic equivalent in skill...
