How do you rendezvous with ALS?

Both rigs pull up next to each other. Launch a zip line across. Medic tethers over. Grabs the patient. Returns to the ALS unit unless he releases to BLS. Hopefully they don’t run out of highway (or fuel). Best illustrated in this movie scene.

Why is Maryland reciprocity so complicated

Yea, heading from PA to MD ten years ago was amusing. I really do believe they make it more difficult to strong-arm people into affiliating with volunteer agencies. For me, finding a place holding the authorized ALS protocol course was fun... until the company had me write the self-study...

    Paramedic Documentary Series

Based off of the BBC popularity, they are looking to do a Paramedics show here. The usual appropriate blurring of everything. Live crews in the command center, streetside near the hubs and spokes, and on responding units to capture live everything from the 999 call, ProQA, alert, response...

Do you have a college degree, and is it EMS related

One of the guys I used to work with normally did the "wheelchair" van whenever he could, and functioned on a BLS unit as needed. He got tired of being a corporate lawyer...

Do you have a college degree, and is it EMS related

Yes. Not exactly.. was active duty, is military in nature, was not intended as civilian EMS. BS International Relations, Military focus. MA Military Studies, focus on special operations.

    the 100% directionless thread

Went on a brief anniversary trip last month to Zanzibar. An irrelevant but cute picture, "Come on honey, it's time to go. The plane isn't going to wait."

For the more seasoned EMTs, what does a new EMTB do that bothers you?

I'm not as good with cut and paste on multiple small replies as some of you are... :) It's definitely an interesting system here, one that is actually very good - overall, probably one of the top 10 in the world, but has some peculiarities. Previously, negative feedback was heavy, more...

For the more seasoned EMTs, what does a new EMTB do that bothers you?

Breathe. OK OK,... just kidding. It was a bit of a shock going from the US to Qatar. Back home, if a BLS called it was for a purpose and they had an idea of what ALS brought to the call for interventions. Here, it's call for a magical assessment, x-ray vision, and a magic 8 ball...

To Degree or Not to Degree. That is The Question.

Most of the programs I'm familiar with required a full year A&P course, and college level algebra (or tested equivalent). Granted, that was a few decades ago. Amusingly, there was no degree track most places then. Unless as a paramedic you took a 2 year program in EMS management, in which...

    Working in Qatar

I am unaware of any recruited dispatchers. I am aware they have been / are looking, but that's a whole different department. Just as an FYI.. Applied Sep 2013. Interview April 2014. Job offer May 2014. Verification started August 2014. Visa October 2014. Supposed to come November 2014...

    Working in Qatar

Good morning, Overall life is decent. Working conditions are humane. The summers are brutal. Winters are cool and enjoyable. Vacation time accumulates and we all enjoy a worldwide travel that was incomprehensible working back home. Actually, the wife and I just got back from celebrating our...

    Working in Qatar

Still here with the wife (wasn't seeing that coming way back when I first hopped in this thread way back when!) and looking at staying through the World Cup still. Open to options, buuuuut they have to be good ones. Working, saving, investing, and of course vacationing. Waiting for next...

    Working in Qatar

They are a bit slow and very thorough with credentialing. The call-center is transitioning from using trained Ambulance Paramedics (EMT-Is) in the role to a more EMD training/certification based system. Expect tweaks, upgrades, and continued recruiting for the next 3 years.

    EMS Congress

Sadly, I don't log on often... and had not remotely heard of this, nor seen it advertised anywhere. I actually would have tried to go.

    Working in Qatar

Life goes on. All is well. Far more multinational imports with shipping direct into Qatar, a new rail line from Turkey to Iran and ship to Qatar, and a new port shuffle with Oman. No lack of goods, overall better quality and prices are the same. For the South Africans, they got rocked by a...

    Middle East

The U.K. Medics I know of in Qatar are private contracts or with Hamad's VIP side. South Africa just changed their expat tax code and their expats are looking at having to pay 45% of their salaries to taxes at home now... and a bunch are getting iffy on if it will be worth it to stay here...

    Working in Qatar

Armor10 rarely logs on, life and all. I just got back from a honeymoon so... Life's interesting. I'm thinking it's 90% political junk out of the one country in particular that likes conservative, control, and is a bit worse off financially. But hey, I digress. Absolutely nothing would be...

Do you 5K? 10K? Marathon? Triathlon?

There are two reasons to run. Fear and greed. No fear, I'll stand my ground and die in a pile of brass. Nothing I want that badly either, except maybe Carrie Underwood in nothing but high heels and pearls, holding a bottle of Balvenie 50year and a few good cigars.

    Patient Narratives

They're pushing the APs towards an IMIST-AMBO for turnover reports and where narratives are still used. Completely irrelevant, but something I recall seeing years ago: You didn't have a narrative. You submitted a large, awkward, random assemblage of sentences. If true, the sentences were...
