    Restraints

As a Basic in my agency, we have soft restraints that we can use at will (but you better document your reason and it better be valid!!!) On a pysch patient, if they are restrained, a police officer must ride with us. We can't do anything chemically - not sure about ALS.

    New York Ambulance License?

Depends on what their insurance says. I am a college student in NY with a NJ license. I work at two agencies (one collegiate, one township) that allow me to drive with my NJ license. Another place that I have looked into would not allow me to drive without a NY license

    Wearing your stethoscope

pants pocket...it's easy to throw it around your neck out of convenience...but try to avoid it. It's not so much that you would be "that guy," but its really a safety thing. With it around your neck, all a combative patient has to do is grab it and start choking you...just keep that in mind

    Blood Glucose Checks

New York leaves it up to the individual regions to determine I believe. My region allows EMT-B's to check BGL if their agency is approved to do so, and if they have gone through training on how to do it. Even if you can't check BGL, you are still allowed to give oral glucose in a diabetic...

    Pants (not a cookie-cutter question).

I only like cargo pants...I have a pen and penlight on the left side with a notepad and a pair of gloves in the pocket. On the right side, I have a roll of tape, trauma shears, and a vomit bag (never know when are gonna need one quick). My scope also goes in there when not on my neck (I am...

    Paper or Computer?

I tend to agree. Because we can pull up patient history in out computer though, I like to check if our patient is in the system. If they are, I confirm everything in there with them. If not, I usually drop the computer and write it all down. I think its more 'personal' if you write it rather...

    Paper or Computer?

I was going to start a new thread on this, but found this one instead. Has anything changed for you? I work at two different agencies. Both use Electronics Patient Care Reports as required by either NY State or the region we are in. Both places us EMScharts which I like a lot (although I have...
