    the 100% directionless thread

Got it. Thank you. My only expreiance with a helecopter was taking a pt from the landing place to the hospital about 20 years ago. They landed and brought the pt to us. Now we have landing places right on the hospital grounds so that is no longer an issue. We will call in a helecopter for...

    the 100% directionless thread

I obviously know nothing about helecopters so please excuse me if these sound like stupid questions but a) if the helecopter is off what difference does uphill or down hill make? b)I though you needed a flat place to land so why would there be an uphill/downhill? Also, if you turn it off to...

Thanks everyone. I decided to go for the Xshears. Now just waiting for them to arrive.

Should we have done something different for this trauma call?

I was referring more to dr. Parasites comment. I am well aware of how litigious the US is how lucky I am to be protected from such litigation. As it happens I agree that our system would not work on the scale of most US states.

Should we have done something different for this trauma call?

You did great. I agree with everyone else that the AED would not be helpful. Does your protocol allow for you to give iv's in trauma pts?

    Trauma Shears Recommendations?

The gadgets to me seem like too much and not so useful. Why do I need a strap cutter if I have good shears? The glass breaker for me is the FD, The ruler also seems not so useful. I could see how the O2 wrench could be useful but I have never found myself in need of one without having on the...

    Trauma Shears Recommendations?

My trauma shears are 15 years old and have finally breathed their last. I am looking for a new pair. I see a lot about these Raptor shears but a) the seem to be really expensive and b) they look like they do too much. If I need to break a window I call the fire department not go searching for my...

EMS system needs vs human biological needs

Sounds like a nightmare. We are a small country with a lot of level 1 hopsitals, thank G-d. A long transport for me is a half hour to 40 minutes. A really long one is an hour. More than that (in an urgent case) is unheard of. Even when we have a pt at the dead sea (about 2 hours drive to the...

EMS system needs vs human biological needs

We mostly do 8-10 hours shifts, but in my region it is the norm to be getting calls back to back the whole time. The hospitals all have EMS rooms where they put out fruit, yoghurt, sandwiches, coffee, tea for us for free. After about 10 minutes in the hospital if there is a real need, dispatch...

    Tasers and Gurneys

I was on a BLS unit when this happened so we could not use chemical restraint and once we got to the ER he was given haldol. Took two huge cops and two more massive security guards, 1 larger than average male nurse, 1 regular size doctor and 5mgs of haldol to get him to stop fighting. We didn't...
