    the 100% directionless thread

Our day shift ate/took all the donated meals from the local church. We showed up at 1700 assuming we'd have some sort of food... Disappointing, but we had our own small potluck.

    Off-Duty Response

We get into a weird variation of this where I work. The comm center has an official unit we take out on training, etc. The vehicle is equipped with an AED, BLS bag, and a water rescue throw line. It's a personal decision to respond, as we have no policy per se. The obvious differences being we...

You can move to the comm center...unfortunately our average career life about 2-5 years.

Glad to see it's not just bad here... We frequently have are local boys whining about how dispatch classifies the truck. I will not classify a unit as a Brush Rescue... when they run it as an engine.

    Powerpoint Power users?

Choose the animation as a slide in from the right, and set a timed slide change for a very short period of time. The other option would would be to take your pictures and create a flash movie, I used an online program to do something similar a few years ago.

EMDs can listen for subtle clues and obvious ones during questioning from tone of voice to plain lack of knowledge. It's weird when significant others stumble on questions about age, are too calm about a situation they're reporting, or change details. Dispatchers should also be checking premise...

    i chickened out

Fire/EMS training is aimed specifically at building confidence and showing you that you can do it. Fire training gets to many people with it's extreme environments. It's hard to defeat those feelings, but it is possible. I'm, currently in a FF1 class, with people that initially panicked in SCBA...

Parents Sue Police Over Death of Down Syndrome Man

I strongly agree with the sentiment, the problem is how huge a gray area this can be for a for public safety. Following a caregivers advice and approaching the situation with a different mentality should be the norm. However, while they may be Intellectually Disabled (ID), they still are...

I'd guess it's either from Albert Einstein Medical Center in PA, which had or has a maroon landrover with EMS physician all over it, or maybe MONOC got one.

Parents Sue Police Over Death of Down Syndrome Man

How else would you handcuff a person resisting arrest? I generally thought that was how LEO's are trained to do it. Also a general note, if the man did not have downs, and a similar situation occurred would people care as much? It was an unfortunate tragedy, that like most can be a huge...
