Sorry to hear that Rob. If you want to talk, ditto everyone else here. Just hit me up.

What sort of topics are you interested in? I am reading something that I think is interesting, but I am fairly certain, due to the specific audience it is written for, you wouldn't think the same.

If it is something we can't take to the county hospital, it gets flown out. Transport to the county hospital can be anywhere from a couple minutes to 30 minutes or so. If the bird can't fly due to weather, and we have to do ground transports, the closest hospital with low level ICU is, at...

Well, he is an Internal Medicine doc that pulls semi-regular shifts in the ED. There isn't a single doc that works in that ED that is an EM doc. They are all internal medicine, GPs, or family practice docs. Of course, the hospital is a critical access point hospital, and doesn't have an ICU...

I can do better than that. Not only do those patient's have to be boarded, if you trip over something, causing you to fall forward and bump your forehead and you only have isolated pain to that spot, you have to be boarded. If you are involved in a MVC and have pain along your shoulder and the...

We went to a bar on our first date. He left me there, to take his drunk friend home. He did come back and get me, and in the process was able to rescue me from the drunk firefighter who had me cornered and was reciting lines from Backdraft.

That is a really long time to have to wait. I know there are programs out there that do didactic and then clinicals, but I just find that weird. I'm sure it is because the program I went to, we did clinicals and didactic at the same time. The further we got into the program, the more...

Code calls, load & go or wait for ALS?

We do therapeutic hypothermia. Been doing it for a few years now.

Code calls, load & go or wait for ALS?

If you have an AED and are doing good CPR, stay until ALS gets to you, or you get ROSC. Anymore, most ALS can call a code once certain parameters are met. There's no reason to risk the living for transporting a corpse.

Is it weird/frowned upon to buy a thank-you gift for a FTO and his partner?

You could offer to pay for lunch one day.

    Large bore IV's

I've done something similar, except the 24 was in the foot instead. And on a similar but unrelated note, I placed a 24 in a patient's index finger the other day for the first time.

So, today was the straw that broke the camels back. I haven't really felt like this new job is the best fit for me. However, I was trying to keep an open mind and give it some more time. I feel like the protocols aren't as liberal as they want me to believe, and the medical director is...

    Documentation

I know a lot of people use SOAP, CHART, or some other method. I prefer to do a chronological narrative. Some agencies will want you to use a specific format, others do not. Practice is the best way to improve your narratives. I always tell people to read as many reports written by other...

Outdated protocols and medical director behnd the times.

If I had any doubts about stepping back in time with my current job, they were erased last night. The medical director was the ED doc, so I asked him about a run we recently had. The run was a young, healthy, 20-something that didn't lift her foot up quite high enough when stepping out of...

Thanks, BBG! Here's the updates for both that I posted on another board. First for my husband: My husband's surgery went well. The surgeon was happy with how the site looked when he got in there, and was able to get it cleaned up some more without any problems. He will most likely get...

I am so over the God's being angry. I don't know what my family has done, or who they have angered, but I am over it! The husband goes back to the OR today for another irrigation of the infection site they removed the plate from in his leg the other day. Then, I get home from work, and my...

Really starting to wonder if my job is the right fit for me. Wednesday night, after taking my husband to the ED, him getting admitted, and being told his is going to have surgery the next day, I call the boss to let them know I won't be in. I am still in my probationary period, but this seems...
