    Stethoscope - The Mega Thread

Well, I carry two in my backpack. I don't work ems, and my attire is khakis and a polo shirt at work, so no, I don't carry two on me, but they're within reach when i'm with patients, so I'll pull one when needed.

    Resistance to pain medication

Burn unit nurses might as well be CRNAs...they're about as good at providing proper analgesia as anyone else in the hospital.

    Real CPR footage

This is one of my favorite videos on youtube. Officers doing something far outside of their normal comfort level to serve the public. Strong work indeed.

    Is trauma easier than medical?

Vehicle rollover with ejection/death of other occupants. A restrained passenger could walk away with bruises or nothing.

    Is trauma easier than medical?

Plug holes, permissive hypotension, splint, drive fast, and do a detailed assessment on the way so the ER knows what they're getting ahead of time. Seems easy enough.

    Stethoscope - The Mega Thread

Spragues are decent, but not ideal. I take most of my blood pressures with them, but occasionally if i'm on a loud truck i'll have to toss the sprague and pull one of my personal scopes out to reduce the noise and hear the beat.

Forming an equipment wishlist for my agency... suggestions!

Forget SALT airways. See if your medical director will allow Kings for arrest patients. Pulseox is good with basic training, and as others have said, you don't need quikclot. Tourniquets and dressings will do fine.

If you're riding second they ought to pay you. You're discount labor for them.

    Pulse ox

It would seem the alternative though is to either just make clinical decisions without pulse oximetry or to make no decisions at all and put everyone on 15lpm NRB. In the end, without a means to determine sats, every respiratory, cardiac, overheated, or generally sick looking person is going to...

    Medical School Path

I'll answer the first question. I'm an intermediate who took the class knowing I planned on doing medical school. Taking the EMT class itself isn't really worth much to the admissions committee. You need to show legitimate patient contact, which means working as an EMT in an EMS or IFT...

    the 100% directionless thread

If they had your back, it would be "it's ok to say no, but it's really important for him to get this experience now, as he will be solely responsible for delivering babies in the field with no backup"

Paramedics hit by drunk driver [Pic/Story]

Would have been better if they were transporting, because although the partner may have been unrestrained in the back, it looks like the passenger compartment was almost completely destroyed.

    Which Littmann to choose

I have a Littmann Master Classic and an Ultrascope. I feel the Ultrascope is much better at picking up sounds through clothing (I work IFT, so I don't always have a good reason to strip my patients down, and the old ones get cold easily), but in a hospital environment I think I would be able to...

    High School student considering EMT

Which pretty much turns you into an EMT-B in some places. For everything else the medic can just say, "hey, grab the thingy over there and put it over here".

    home remedies that work

Evidence-based medicine at its finest. Its when we insist on using things because we think we understand how they work and we think that they will work, even without evidence, that we run into problems.

I used SEARCH and no dice: trans-tracheal meds

I just gave myself a brownie point for knowing what BAKA means. Why no love for humeral IOs?
