Interested in joining EMS and the military

Research ANG 4N CERFP. I have the same goals as you and researched and met with all the branches over the past year and a half. Back in May I swore in and have been drilling with the Air National Guard (ANG) and love it. The CERFP mission is domestic so unless you volunteer or if they need to...

    Coast Guard EMTs? Civilian EMTs?

I am in the same boat as you. I am currently a volly in EMS with my local ambulance corp. I will be shipping to BMT for the Air Force - Air National Guard as an Aerospace Medical Technician. The way I look at it is you can't beat the experience and advanced level training all while getting paid...

    NY Ride Along

Thanks Dan. A friend of ours is the head Doc at a big hospital and said I can shadow her for a day, so yesterday I took her up on her offer. It was really cool. I got to see a lot of things I would call less than exciting but the stabbing victim made up for it! This dude got stabbed under his...

I would love to do that. Any idea of a company that does that? Any contact leads would be awesome and much appreciated!

    Inside Combat Rescue

Thanks Chaz. Yes I have read the description and understand what it is about. I am actually going into the CERFP program so my squadrons response would be on something rather major within the USA. Really my goal is to take this as far as I can go and on the civilian side get to Paramedic or...

    Inside Combat Rescue

Guys I need some advice! I have no prior emergency medicine experience and am one step away from swearing in to ANG as an Aerospace Medical Tech. I am fine with blood and good with and love watching this show but how do I know that I will be able to keep a level head and handle the major gore...

    NY Ride Along

So I joined the forum in January and have been off for a while debating a new career in Emergency Medicine. Life has been nutty and blahh, blahh, blahh.... Since last on I have interviewed twice for a local FD/Ambulance Company and been accepted into their EMS program and hopefully start...

    Is EMT work for me?

Very true! I am visiting a local ambulance corp today to drop off my application to volly EMS. I figure it's a great way to get hands on training and see if this is for me. There is a sponsorship program in NYS that the state and ambulance corp will pay for my EMT-B course if I volly EMS. I...

    Is EMT work for me?

So if I am understanding correctly, the only real way to know if this is a career I would enjoy is by volunteering as EMS at a local ambulance company, right? It's one of those careers that isn't so straight forward like a Teacher or Sales so deciding is proving very hard for me.

    Is EMT work for me?

I've spoken to a few ambulance companies and it seems no one is doing ride alongs anymore due to liability. BUMMER!! :censored:

    Is EMT work for me?

Thanks NVRob. Although I am growing better in regards to my puke tolerance (thanks to my 11 and 8 year old boy's), it still gets me. I've read rubbing some Vicks under the nostrils helps with the smell but not the sight. LOL I've been in athletics and public safety for some time and really...

    Is EMT work for me?

I have been contemplating a career in emergency medicine for over a year now. I am very good at stressful situations and like helping people, just not sure how I would be handling throw up and major gore. Ultimately, how would I know if this is the right career for me? Suggestions/advice...
