Opinion on use of rapid response units

Vene- I would have thought it to be common knowledge as well... However my system is moving in a "new direction" that doesnt really support that... And to my suprise, most people in my system support the movement... Im trying to locate something objective that says, just what you just did.

Opinion on use of rapid response units

Vene- Absolutely agree with you 100%, but I wonder if you have any research or articles that support that??

    Complacency

Giving a drip of Lido, as a 500cc bolus is a little different... That probably would be an error. Our premixed Lido bags, have "LIDOCAINE" printed on them in Bold, large font, and Red color...

    Dual Paramedic vs. Tiered????

Does anyone have any studies that show which response system is better? I dont really want the typical anecdotal stories as they dont really help. Im looking for actual studies that show benefit (whether direct or indirect) of one versus the other... I've been looking, and can't seem to find...

    Complacency

Quick!!!! Where's the "Like Button"??? Awesomely put Linuss! I too, see nothing wrong with the Lidocaine dose... Could it have been wrong? Sure, but it could have been, and probably was, right... My dose for Lido is 1.5mg/kg. My supplied amount is 100mg/5ml (bristojet). Soooo... If i am...

    autonomic dysreflexia

Perhaps Croaker can give a more accurate response, but this is how I understand it... (theres also a pretty decent, short article about it on eMedicine) Basically, a sensory nerve impulse is carried to the brain via the spinal cord. Normally, an inhibitory impulse can decend through the...

    Inline Nebs: Intubated Patients

Yup, our nebs kits also fit all of our equipment... Our BVMs, ETTs, and CPAP kits... (On a side note, I TRY not to intubate COPDers though...) If yours dont, perhaps you need to have a discussion with your supervisor or supply people about ordering equipment that is compatible with each...

    Hyperkalemia and hightened T waves.

okay..... Phase 3 of the Cardiac Action Potential corresponds with the T wave on the ECG. Normally, in Phase 3, "the K+ channels open and K+ flows rapidly out of the cell, Carrying positive charges to the outside and returns the Action Potential to its resting state." Jacobson, C...

    Anaphylaxis!

akulahawk- You can give Epi IV (I assume for Allergic reactions, since thats what the convo is about) But you cant give it IM?!?!?!?!?!? That doesnt make a whole lotta since to me... I know some places give it IV for Allergic Reactions, but they (your system) thinks that is safer then...

    capnography questions

okay so, large pulmonary embolisms can effect ETCO2 several different ways, all resulting in decreased ETCO2 readings... 1) A large clot will block blood going to the lungs and create hypoxia. If the blood is hypoxic, then gas exchange can not occur, leading to hypocapnea. 2) If someone...

    Bath Salts and K12

Bath Salts are very similar to other stimulants, and patient's symptoms are close as well. You can expect tachycardia, tachypnea, anxiety and or paranoia/combativeness, hyperthermia/profuse diaphoresis, and generally a hypermetabolic state. I would be VERY hesitant to administer ANY cardiac...

    How to fix EMS

I whole heartedly agree with Pilgrim... Private ambulance systems are preventing the progression of EMS as a profession. They keep people overworked, underappreciated and underpaid... People are willing to do it for free, or for peanuts and so places have a constant influx of undereducated...

    Neckbrace out of ATLS

in my system we have a pretty good Spinal Motion Restriction protocol. It combines the Canadian C Spine Rule Study and the NEXUS study. Unfortunately, I dont see this changing very soon, at least not in the U.S. We're way too letigious. I mean even "progressive" medic schools dont teach C...
