In college I became involved as a non-traditional first responder, responding to the occasional emergency but largely being involved in an advocacy role not dissimilar to that of the community paramedic. After I graduated, although my career track was not in medicine, I sufficiently liked it that in parallel I got my Emergency Medical Technician training and began volunteering in that capacity. I plan to continue to serve out-of-hospital medical services wherever my career takes me.
