    new EMT - career advice

If your asking a about pay, where I'm from EMTs make about 30-35K a year. Medics make 45-60K a year without OT. Hours and pay vary per service.

    Administration of Narcan for AMS

Fair enough. Mainly wanted to discuss it without throwing off the other thread. Task accomplished.

    new EMT - career advice

I work at one of the operations that is an absolute meat grinder. We have guys transfer in on a regular basis. But in that process, I've met a few guys that are single and transfer operations every couple of years or so, exploring the country on AMR's dime.

If your partner was texting and driving and smoking in the ambulance....

Tk11, I'm going to give you some free advice so its worth what you paid for it. This is a job that will cause you to question and compromise what you originally considered your ethics and values. The only way to deal with the things in this job is to very quickly grow some thick skin and not...

There does seem to be this string of problems, doesn't there? Is this guy the FTO you had issues with?

I couldn't give you an honest answer to that statement. AMR is the only corporate EMS I've worked for. There are other large national and regional EMS companies but I don't know any of their policies.

    Administration of Narcan for AMS

This is exactly the reasoning why I would give Narcan. I do realize it isn't likely an opioid, without the ability to run a tox screen, you can't absolutely rule it out. With that, Narcan should be considered as a later treatment possibility when everything else has been done.

    Administration of Narcan for AMS

I never said anything about giving it because I was bored. That type of statement is comes close to hyperbole. Based on the information available when I originally posted that, if all other treatment possibilities have been exhausted, your options are to simply sit there and look at the pt or...

    Why do you say that?

Do have a question. What is CLTS? That's a new anacronym to me.

Actually they pay moving expenses for transfers usually. Getting a sign on bonus to is the part that tends to be operationally dependant. As far as the minimum amount of time goes, it's usually two years although you'll want to contact individual opperations to confirm that.

    Administration of Narcan for AMS

This came up in another thread and I want to answer it without derailing the original topic so I created this one. While I don't blanket administer Narcan to all AMS, in the case of the original thread I would. If you administer Narcan and there aren't any opioids attached to the mu receptors...

    Foaming At The Mouth

Since this pt has a RA SPO2 of 94%, I would consider her self maintaining an airway. I'd probably put her in fowlers with a canula.

    Foaming At The Mouth

If you wouldn't, that's fine. I agree that it probably won't make a difference and I don't want to derail this thread.

    new EMT - career advice

If your not considering making EMS a long term career, think about going to work for AMR. Once you've been at your initial location for a minimum amount of time, you can transfer to an operation in another area of the country. AMR will pay you moving expenses and depending on where you go, you...
