    Camp Hematoma

Thanks NAPTOWNEMT, but I'm good on the camping. I go camping year round. Looking forward to sleeping in my hammock.

It's a weekend long camp for EMT students to get more hands on training through various acted scenarios.

Very excited to be starting clinicals at the end of this month.

Well, I have very limited experience, but more than anything I tried to observe, ask as many questions as I could. (When appropriate.) Taking vitals was pretty easy as it involved hooking them up to an automated machine. (Almost felt like cheating.) Make sure they let you actually do it at least...

Very excited to be starting clinicals at the end of this month.

Did my first 12 hour clinical at Community North here in Indianapolis. Great group of folks to work with. I was paired through out the day with several great nurses who seemed to really care enough to make sure I saw the "interesting stuff." Next one I do in a few weeks I'm going to push a...

Buying boots. Want to buy Magnum Mach 1 5491 boots. Sweaty?

Ended up finding a pair of 5.11 Atac 6 shoes on Ebay, brand new, at a good price. Feel good just walking around the house. Will know in a few weeks when I start my clinicals.

Very excited to be starting clinicals at the end of this month.

I suppose it's a rather opened ended question, but does anyone care to share any advice? I have to have 24 hours of ER and 48 hours of runs. I decided to break it all into 12 hours shifts. (Saturdays because of my regular job schedule.) At the advice of our teacher I'm doing the ER work first...

Buying boots. Want to buy Magnum Mach 1 5491 boots. Sweaty?

I'll be starting clinicals in a month or so. I need start getting gear together. I found these boots on EBAY for $43. (Definitely in my price range.) Here's a few thoughts to put my purchase in contexts. 1. I have no plans to switch careers to being an EMT when I'm finished with school. I...

    When it gets to you

I know I'm less than rookie. Haven't even started clinicals, but what helps me destress life's troubles in general is kayaking or backpacking. I mention this because you brought up kayaking. For me, it's about simplifying life, if only for a little while. When I'm Hiking or kayaking the life...

Is 56 too old to become an EMT?

Slightly apples to oranges, but I'm in class now and I'm 37. Why should age be an issue if you're reasonably fit?

    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

Husband to wonderful woman and father of 3 boys. I spend as much time as I can outdoors exploring. (Backpacking, kayaking, cycling.) I'm working on getting EMT certified more for self education that a career switch. (Although I do look forward to doing some volunteer work.) My purpose for...
