Good point. Of all the forums I post on, this one often the most negative.
It's unfortunate and it means I participate less than I would otherwise. I expected more comaradery and less divisive talk.
I have to agree with usafmedic45. I'm a volunteer first responder, and I'm officially part of the EMS and the healthcare system here, which is good enough for me.
The only person who follows the unpaid = amateur (and that's what he calls us) is a (paid) firefighter I know. I think he may have...
When I was in Nova Scotia, there was a guy who had stolen EHS Paramedic uniforms, a PCP tag and RCMP (Mountie) uniforms.
His gf was in the police and thought he was a paramedic. He actually made had a recording of dispatch calls he'd play in the background when talking to her, and he was at...
I was at a hockey game and a guy wanted me to look at his kid, then asked if I had "some kind of medical training".
I had been cleaning my stethoscope (not much to do), was in uniform, had a trauma kit with me and my provincial EHS (Emergency Health Service) badge attached to my uniform...
No, it wasn't a refusal of care. It was more like a refusal that anything was wrong at all, on all sides.
Actually, it was a kid, and the mother agreed that he'd be ok as well. After all, her husband was an EMT ten years ago.
I didn't follow that pattern of logic either...
This are Fire shirts, but they do custom EMS shirts here too, if you ask:

St. John Ambulance courses in Canada would be as follows.
Emergency First aid = your Level 1
Standard First Aid = your Level 2
Medical First Responder = your Level 3
And we have EMR or AMFR, or Level 2 MFR (all the same thing) which is a two-week course.
However, one thing that...
I had someone fall and hit just under their eye on concrete steps, declining level of consciousness, pupils weren't PERL; things weren't looking good.
A paramedic refused to transport, saying he was fine, the guy would work through it, didn't need any attention and insisted it was a "face...
Actually, I shouldn't laugh. I have to wear a white shirt too.
I remember coming back after treating a bleeder and I was really happy I hadn't got any blood on myself - then I was told "look at yourself more closely". It was the "I've been eating spaghetti look".
White!? That's crazy.
All the time you spend on your knees, that's the last colour I'd want to be wearing.
At least it won't show blood. Oh wait...
I know it's made the news recently and it's true. There's no economic slowdown here in Saskatchewan.
They're hiring EMRs at Agrium Vanscoy for $28/hr. You also work security there as well.
That's exactly the same thing I've had for the last two weeks.
I also lost my voice whilst teaching.
It is going around, but it's not swine flu. It's crappy though!
Ooops, meant to click "only if I knew them well".
I pretty much always have a barrier device with me though.
If they're in arrest, just compressions can be done until some fetches a mask.
