check pulse FOR A LONG TIME. At that temp pulse may be one per minute according to the textbook... so it's a trick question... you usually do cpr on someone with no pulse after 10 second check, but in frigid cold, it's another story according to the text books.

in class we were told that the only obvious sign of death that we can actually consider an obvious sign of death in this type of situation is decapitation... of course this is an emr level class, not an emt level class... is that rule of thumb the same for others?

second hand watch from walmart should be fine... it's used to measure pulse and blood pressure, so you need to figure out when stuff is 10 (max time to measure pulse in unresponsive patient before you determine if cpr is necessary) seconds, 15 seconds (multiply times 4 to get pulse), or 30...

where do you plan to work? There's a lot of different opportunities for being an emt. Fire and Ambulance services are not the only ones. There's also stuff like Casinos and other entertainment venues that have to have an emt on duty 24/7...
