    What made you do it?

I'm a dual rate EMR/Security Officer at a Casino now, but haven't done but one medical as a backup to an EMT so far... going to do a lot more in the future. I got in to this for a lot of reasons... Prior to this job I was King of the Dish Pit (Steward II). This is a move up in pay from there...

    NEED HELP! scenario question

check pulse FOR A LONG TIME. At that temp pulse may be one per minute according to the textbook... so it's a trick question... you usually do cpr on someone with no pulse after 10 second check, but in frigid cold, it's another story according to the text books.

Is the National Registry that hard ?

harder... faster... deeper... (sorry had to) Serious note - thanks for the suggestions in websites. I'm gonna check them out. I've already looked at, and purchased some of the apps on google play. Some of the freebie ones are awesome by themselves, but most of them focus on really simple...

How to deal with a negative co-worker

I'm saying some people think they are above the law, not just in EMS, but everywhere. Usually if folks are jackasses and cutting corners in professionalism and courtesy to others, it's likely they are cutting corners in other aspects of their job as well. If that's the case, and they are doing...

How to deal with a negative co-worker

Give a fool enough rope and they will hang themselves. Remember that Corporate Compliance Rules are everywhere... keep your eyes open for ways to utilize that fact if he's doing something you don't think is a legit way of doing it... If he is doing stuff legit, suck it up princess. Try...

EMT unable to work on ambulance? Looking for input!

Move to another state and/or consider possibilities outside of the ambulance? Mississippi and Missouri are not far away... I'm studying to be an EMR at an Isle of Capri Casino property here in Missouri at the moment, and my instructor is teaching classes at one of the other properties...

    Ethics? Allowed?

in class we were told that the only obvious sign of death that we can actually consider an obvious sign of death in this type of situation is decapitation... of course this is an emr level class, not an emt level class... is that rule of thumb the same for others?

Wondering if this job is really for me

I'm not an EMT or even EMR yet (in the EMR course)... One thing that I'd like to say is that if actually being on the ambulance isn't necessarily for you, there's an entire medical profession out there that deals with what happens afterwards. Some people are more comfy in front of a desk all...

    Sparky things you've done...

still in EMR class at this point in time, but I see some of you are mentioning gear... I currently work as a Steward II in a Kitchen (basically the lead guy in charge of the dish pit and doing oddball jobs that the head chef doesn't want to get their hands dirty with like spending hours in a...

    Starting training-Basics

second hand watch from walmart should be fine... it's used to measure pulse and blood pressure, so you need to figure out when stuff is 10 (max time to measure pulse in unresponsive patient before you determine if cpr is necessary) seconds, 15 seconds (multiply times 4 to get pulse), or 30...

Transport billed... To a dead man's family.

Bill it, but don't expect to get paid. On a side note, something a hospital I used to work for did a lot was bill "patient convenience fee" for any ambulance run where no actual transport was done (usually diabetic, etc.). Discussing it in class no one else had heard of that type of maneuver...

really cool little program - htt p:// w ww. abyssmedia.com/bpmcounter/ - got it to add beats per minute to all of my mp3 detail views in windows. Studying for cpr class it's handy to have all of the songs in the 100 beats per minute range... :) .

Questioning EMT career, maybe nursing is the answer

where do you plan to work? There's a lot of different opportunities for being an emt. Fire and Ambulance services are not the only ones. There's also stuff like Casinos and other entertainment venues that have to have an emt on duty 24/7...
