Do you think it is good practice to draw bloods in the field?

I work in a lab that tests blood samples...I think you guys would be surprised at the amount of blood we throw away. I've personally tossed 5-6 4mL tubes of a single patient's blood before. Also, blood in sodium heparin (green) or EDTA (purple/pink) tubes shouldn't coagulate. I've only seen a...

    Education Beyond Paramedic

I'm pretty sure he's saying that a bachelors in EMS will basically be useless. Not that a bachelors in something else would be. If you want to go to nursing school, then do that. Why get a bachelors in something else & then have to go back later in life to get a BSN? Waste of time & a...

EMT-B course along with other college courses. Thoughts?

I took I think 14-15 credits at a university while commuting about 90 minutes round trip two or three times a week for EMT class. Wasn't an issue for me. I should have gotten an A in the class, but I forgot about a few assignments which dropped me to an A-.

    Long Time Since Training

I just got my first job a few months ago. I passed the NR written back in Feb '13. I was worried about the same thing as you. I found the first call I was on it was kind of like "wtf is going on? wtf do I do?" but after a few calls I'm much more comfortable. Not as comfortable as I would...

    EMS boots.

I have 5.11 8" ATACs. I like them a lot & love having the zipper. I wear them around off duty if it snowed or is snowing. Of course, I just got my first EMS job a few months ago, so these are the first & only pair I've ever bought so I don't have anything else to compare them to.

Man being rushed to hospital stopped for speeding

This happened pretty close to where I live. Pretty much this. And that. If it takes 15 minutes to drive from your house to the ER & 5 min for EMS to get to your house, then you're getting an extra 10 minutes of treatment before you even get to the ER. Just a sad story.

    Are Ampules Still Used?

Service I work for uses 30mL vials for epi. Toss 'em after one use. A waste, but it's still cheaper than the pens.

How soon after Your emt class did you take the nremt b?

Our practicals were the last day of the class & then we had to schedule the written on our own. I finished the class & passed the practicals mid December. I didn't take the written until mid/late February. They suggested we take it ASAP when all the material was fresh; I kind of drug my feet...

Staten Island man dies after being taken down by police

Dude, where have you been for years? Anytime stuff like this happens, 99.99999% of the time the LEO gets a paid vacation for a couple weeks until such point as he/she is cleared of all charges, despite the overwelming evidence that they shouldn't be cleared.

    Weight Problem (Please assist)

Well, you have made some serious progress. Congrats on that. If you've cut calories, are making better food choices, are getting some activity, & are still losing weight, there isn't a whole lot else you can do. Unfortunately, you let yourself get to a pretty high weight & this didn't happen...

Yes, I was referring to the "it's a job part". Probably should have bolded it when I quoted you.

    Why work in IFT?

Definitely don't give this as an answer for any interview... Look at their website. Especially a mission statement or something of the like. Utilize that, along with some other research about the company to come up with a reason for wanting to work there. You can, of course, mention you...

So I'm confused now...did you fail that station the 3 times you were given? We had one guy who failed the spinal immobilization station 3 times when I did my skills testing. He asked the guy who was in the room sending us out (who was also in charge of the EMT program) if he had to retake all...
