Ok. I have to write an english paper for school on "definition."

It is very vague, I just need to write two pages on the definiton of a word or idea.

I'm defining Whacker as applied to the Fire/EMS service.

I've got some ideas, but I'm looking for suggestions as to root of the word (can anyone come up with something that isn't "sexual"?)

Also, any other suggestions as to how it came about and what it really means? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Really, I'm just looking for some ideas...

Please, no examples of "he was a real whacker" I've got plenty of them ;)

Well, if you include an 8x10 picture of yourself that will take up one page, then you only have to write 1 page of copy... :)

Can you triple space???? Two pages on definition?
LOL on the previous posts.

If I were you I would incorporate where you live can effect and change the definition of a word. Words, phrases, gestures, or even symbols in a dream, can vary greatly from person to person depending on experiences and culture and take on very different meanings (definitions). Not to get all Freudian or anything:)

Have fun and good luck!

How many Hams we got here? KC0DOH

How long does the essay have to be? They say a picture is worth a thousands words... so I say include two pictures :)

Jon,

Yes, I am a ham(kd8dlf). That picture is of our SAR leader(n8jsn) at a disaster training scenario last week. Those are our loaner radios, I am not sure why he had them all on his belt but it made for a funny picture.

Ahh... We had someone do this at the squad -

The Junior with 4 portables, 5 pagers, the Command truck Mobile, and the Command Board...

I've actually had to do that on scene a couple of times...one radio for each frequency that I was monitoring/transmitting on. Sometimes I think that multi-tasking should be a fundamental requirement to be in EMS.

ok im new to ems and the country, but can anyone explain what a "whacker" is?
