Waiting at the Hospital

We Triage pts on our call in using the Canadian Triage And Acuity Scale (CTAS)
(same standards and guidelines the hospitals use) Our bed/unit assignment is based off of our CTAS score.

We use an almost identical triage system. Pit many of our patients don't require an ambulance and are assigned cat 4, however the nurses wont put them in the waiting room. Why would they take the risk when they can have 2 Medics watching the patient just in case. Very frustrating.

Amen to that.

Most of our triage nurses have no concept of what it truly means to do triage. "Take a number and wait your turn" is their motto. They almost never see beyond the person right in front of them. We usually do self triage; if someone rolls in who looks sick, either the crew asks if they can jump or we offer up if I notice. I sometimes think a full scale riot could be taking place under their noses and they wouldn't notice.

I love it how some triage nurses get sh1tty at us because we are "bringing them more work"

because sign outside said "emergency" and "ambulance entrance", your hospital said their were accepting patients, and your lack of management and proper staffing is a complaint you should file with your supervisors and management, not the EMS crew who is doing their job by bringing you a patient?
