can't disclose that information, I can hower, give you the same person different call. She was used to working in a facility to faclity unit, has been a medic for years, and sub up for us when we are short on people (sick, leave, vacations). The other squad was already on a call, We were toned to the local bar for a gunshot to the head. Nice, and i have her. Im in the squad, waiting on her to bring her little tote bag she always brings, we go enroute and the radio is all chaos. We were on scene in less that 2 min. Before I was able to get out of the vehicle, PD was holding a man ran him up to my door and said we have three victims and I need to know if he is shot in the head, like Im a CT scan. I looked over, cause her and I were it, it was a crime scene, they couldn't be combined in any squad. I told her get me drivers from the FD and get me now. If we don't need them, we'll back them off. There were approx 50-60 bystanders, it's 2 am, dark very chaotic, I got out of the vehicle, looked at his head, major ETOH; walking, talking just a little slow to answer, large hematoma with what looked like a tear in the skin and a half moon burn like mark. I asked what calliber, they said 38, I said my best guess is that when the gun was fired, it slammed into his head, causing the hematoma and muzzle burn and force of the strike caused a burn and slight tear. But he still has to be transported. (There was a stuggle for the gun) I looked over at my partner and asked if the other two were triaged yet and she was sitting on the bumper, holding her head, saying there's too much going on I can't deal with this.l Great, she's in charge, fine, u take him, start a run sheet, I'll check the others. One major, 1 minor, two squads arrive, one flew back from the hospital to help the other from another district. I gave the first squad the possible gun to the head, I turn around, and she had him wrapped like a mummy. A bandaid would have worked. So I'm trying to explain to the crew that just arrived with no clue of anything that happened, I have only overridden my partner 2 times and refused one order. All were in the best interest of the pts and I was appologized to by them after the call.
So, instead of the oncoming medic trying to picture what this injury looked like, the dressing was not stopping any bleeding, there was no purpose, So I just took it off and told her here, this is what you have, this is what i think, other that ETOH on board possible minor concussion, vitals good, but a little confusion, unknown whether due to alcohol or head injury. We ended up taking the shooter, who was violent, drunk and highly upset with the law, along with beaten up by 3-4 men. We needed to go. My partner was approaching him like a timebomb. He was looking at her and could tell he could do whever he wanted. I stopped the truck, jumped in back, looked that man square in the eyes and explained pretty plainly, I didn't care what happened, or who did what for how many cookies, our job is to treat you and take you to the hospital. In order to do that, my partner needs to obtain information about you, take vitals and do a few exams. You will cooperate fully wth her or I will stop the truck, come back here and restrain you. Do you understand?? He replied yes ma'am. He was like that the whole 40 minute ride up to hospital. I had security waiting at the door, we found out about 5 minutes out that there was a gun missing and it might be on our pt. how nice is that??

^^^ hard to read without paragraphs...

but...

Amongst other things, you tp'd the drunk and violent guy who just tried to shoot someone... without escort? When a gun was missing? And you were unsure the patient had been checked for weapons? Scary! I'd have asked for PD along...

Butt Pucker

[INDENTWell, he was handcuffed upon our arrival and had never, in 6 years, had any issues of anyone not being padded down, especially for a violent crime. Second, they are not allowed to follow us except to the county line, which is only half way.
If we needed help, there were 3 fire departments along the way, which we have called before to assist. Our cops are great, it was just overwhelming for our town and was a huge oversight. I discussed my concern with the sheriff, a friend, how dangerous that was, which wasn't his arrest, the village PD did, which are great guys also. But, I don't want to piss anyone off, we all now have a great working relationship and I don't want to mess it up, but this can't happen again. He looked at me, consider it taken care of. He immediately got in his cruiser, went straight to the Police chief and it was handled.B) It's all cool now!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot right?
Trauma is a cakewalk. It is (mostly) easy to assess. Easy if someone who knows :censored::censored::censored::censored:e from shinola is doing or teaching that is. Not a big deal really. Loads of fluid is not all that helpful. Assessment of your trauma pt is VERY important. MOI is a HUGE part of your assessment. Sick needs a surgeon right now, not sick does not need one right now (appreciation of MOI helps one grip this). Does not sick need a surgeon? Well, not right now, so we have a few moments to sort things on that one.

There are some finer points that apply to your run of the mill non-emergent trauma patients, but I think now is not the time.

A few key points:
For the love of god; a sick trauma pt. needs a surgeon, not YOU, get off the scene.
Have a solid understanding of MOI.
Potential "sick" should be given a nod.
"Sick" should go to a level 1 if you have one.

If you cannot spell or utilize grammar; stick to the Winnie the Pooh books as your moniker suggests. Sorry if you lose you tail.

"Do people understand trauma is a disease?" Not in the 21st century lad. I get your point I think, but damn. Occam's razor still applies.
