I've searched this site and found a few threads that cite national studies on EMT salaries and I've found them to be a little vague. I thought it would be interesting to see what we EMT's are actually being paid in different areas. This could prove valuable to any of us looking to relocate. You may not wish to list your actual salary, and that's ok. Generalities will suffice for the purposes of this thread. Please participate as this can serve as a good benchmark in the future.

Example:

Veteran Pay: $12/hour

Paramedics- $8.00-18.00 (Veteran) Usually 24 hr shifts, larger metro 12 hr, some 8 hr
Flight Paramedics $9.00-$18.00
Intermediate-$7.00- 12.00
Basic- free (we have about 2,000 too many) -$8.00

Larger services have great benefits, competition is fierce to get on most metro areas. Some of the larger ones, there is not competition, however; most do not stay over 2-3 years.

private service, atlanta area, emt-i: $11.25 hr.
time/half for ot, tho they discourage it.
there are medical benefits but i choose not to use them.

i know of a couple others, private & 911 where the hourly is comparable, and there are some where it goes a couple bucks both ways, up & down. an hour or so away in the sticks and forgetaboutit, medics making around $10 an hour.

24 hr shift is little less for both

Holiday- double time.

Some the the best benefit packages in the state for medical, dental, vision and life.

Suburban Detroit / Metro area:

Private EMS
EMT-B Starting Pay: $8.00-$10 an hour
EMT-Paramedic Starting Pay: $11-$15 per hour

It's generally accepted that overtime (over 40 hours) is time and a half. That's where people in EMS make their money.
