Drug Shortages and Solutions

No issues here...

We were using compounded fentanyl and versed for a bit but now it's back to normal. Well the versed is they got us fentanyl ampules...grrrr.

My employer was telling us that the reason for the drug shortage was companies not producing as much as they used to. He said the drug rep told him due to over regulation it's just not as profitable to make certain drugs anymore. Don't know if this is true. Any thoughts? We are currently low on Morphine and Zofran

With all the class action lawsuits on the pharma companies, many plants have been forced to close down. Many outsourced plants will never open again, many other plants are still awaiting FDA approval to reopen.

Here we had a shortage of Valium and Versed but got them both back in, with a good supply about 2 months ago.
We are having changes in Morphine, but not a shortage, just a change from carpujects to vials.

Heard Zofran in low, but we have plenty of Phenergan

I worked with Magen David Adom (Israeli Red Cross) in Israel and being non-profit and at a not so well funded station, we had to make do with what we had. We usually had a full load out when we rolled out at start of shift, but sometimes we were short. We would just make a note of it and hope we didn't need it.
