So what is wrong with taking pain away? I hate seeing Paramedics post that their job is to make the "pain Tolerable". Why, why maket the patient suffer more when we can make the pain go away for the most part?
Just a few weeks ago I was taken to the hospital to rule out pnuemonia. Also myself and medic thought I had a broken rib from coughing. It hurt (8/10) to take a moderate breath much less a deep breath. So I wasn't breathing much. Medic gave me 2 doses of Fentanyl, 100mcg each during 90 minute transport. Pain gone; breathing great. When we got to the hospital, the ED Doc was suprised, not that the medic gave that much cause he thought he was wrong, but that he gave that much to make my breathing easier. ED Doc ordered another 100mcgs of Fentanyl and 60mg of Toradol. RN questioned the doc about it, and he told her that "If he doesn't already have pnuemonia, he will unless it doesn't hurt to breathe.
