    Scene control

You're right, it is not easy to control large groups of bystanders and I agree that sometimes you just can't get a handle on the crowd. However IMO and again it's just my opinion, if placed in this same situation, after noticing the pt had no immediately apparent life threatening injuries and...

Gotcha sorry just woke up and got on shift, it actually was very boring after that, pt stated she did not want chest compressions or intubation, this strip came when she was already in hospital, transferred to ICU and she passed a few hours later.

Blood through the thick gear and still responsive like he was? I'm still not touching him as whatever is bleeding could potentially be aggrivated by extricating him and without the ability to start a line for fluids/blood products then what? Extricating the pt no matter what his condition...

Not to be an *** but lets look at it this way. Your not the responding unit, it is THEIR job to do a thorough assesment. You, the bystander, can assess what you CAN prior to them arriving. What do you see? blood? Any evidence of broken bones? Is the patient alert? Can they follow commands? Are...

Agreed, he may be required to render aid, my point is simply that IMO the best type of aid rendered in this situation would be to stand by the patients side and observe/assess what you can from where you are, do your best to controll the crowd and keep them from yanking him out from under the...

Again I think your missing the point, your not a responder dispatched to the call, you are a bystander, do what you can from where you can leave the rest to those who are currently on the job. By "special equipment" I simply mean the jacks and any other pertanent equipment used by EMS or FF...

    Scene control

Upon noting the PT was A&O and not noticing any life threatening injuries, turning your attention to the crowd and instructing bystanders to leave the PT be for his and everyones saftey would be the next step, once you got a handle on the crowd you can then turn your attention to the PT and stay...

    Scene control

Believe it or not I have been in situations like this both overseas and here in the states. People want to help and while I understand it may be difficult simply asserting a leading figure in himself and directing the onlookers can go along way. People naturally follow especially in situations...

    Scene control

Being in uniform and identifying himself as an off duty FF holds enough weight. Simply addressing the crowd and stating that the best thing for the PT right now is for him to be left where he is until help arrives. Further assessing a PT can simply be watching them, asking questions, no...

    Scene control

When I first posted this I was not aware of the one being an off duty FF, pair that with a snapshot of someone in a road vest in the back and looks like a responder team. Anyhoo, I'm not bashing anyone as it may seem simply jus bringing up a point of discussion as to what went on. Personally I...

    Scene control

I'm not so much focusing on the rescue and techniques used, only that it would of been significantly less chaotic and possibly less stressful on the PT if the responders had better managed the scene and managed to have the crowd stand back as to better rescue the PT. The clear agitation of the...

Depending on the glucometer but yea, below reportable range but usually the pt breathing like a fish out of water will give it away!

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1075800935763699&id=100000014081798 I just watched this. The thing that was in my mind during the whole rescue was how there were so many people trying to "help" which seemed to of created a classic "to many chefs in the kitchen" kinda scenario. Was...

    Pediatric head trauma

I usually will tell the boys its seeing how strong they are, then whatever number it is I just act very impressed and point to my badge reel (its the incredible hulk) and say that they are stronger than him. Usually after that the kid likes me enough and I can get done whatever I need to get...

    Handtevy for Peds.

After looking at a few others theres a 15mo with a weight of 10.07 kg and a 5y.o. weighting 29.5kg, the younger is pretty darn close but that 5y.o. sits where a 9y.o. should according to this method
