Should EMS Receive Discounted Airline Tickets?

I think there's other people who would need a discounted flight more than a medical professional.. I'd like to see Bereavement Policies expanded, I think that would be a better use of charity.

Should EMS Receive Discounted Airline Tickets?

***pulls out military ID, gets discounted SouthWest flight, bypasses security, gets a free sandwich at the USO*** Wait, they give out Ambien, Summit? :p

EMS helicopter crashes in Minnesota, 3 injured

Throw me a PM, I have a mailing address. I asked Brooke if they registered, she said Miles didn't want to, he just wants everyone to be there at the wedding. Wanna be my date? My spouse is staying home with the kids, I still have a +1 on the RSVP. Oh, almost forgot, local paper did another...

EMS helicopter crashes in Minnesota, 3 injured

Brooke stopped by a couple days ago sans Miles. He had OT. She sent out over 300 wedding invites, so that's 300 guests all with a +1. Dissa gonna be awesome, that's gonna be a whole lot of happy people and good juju under one roof. Hopefully there's no MCIs that night, EMS, HEMS and fire has...

EMS helicopter crashes in Minnesota, 3 injured

Nothing publicly shareable on the pilot or nurse yet, except they're still critical. The airbase was closed yesterday, but reopened today. Thank you for thinking of them. Miles also worked for a little level 3 hospital up here, the crew (24 EMTs and Medics total) there is completely...

EMS helicopter crashes in Minnesota, 3 injured

It was a darling young 18 yo who heard the crash while he slept, then ran outside and searched the scene, and triaged the victims. The kid stemmed the bleeding of Miles' lacerated carotid, and preformed CPR when he went into cardiac arrest. *raises my glass to toast this young man*

EMS helicopter crashes in Minnesota, 3 injured

Miles was one of my preceptors about four years ago. His wife shared the extent of his injuries on his caring bridge. Throw some prayers or ju-ju or good vibes down. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/milesweske

EMS helicopter crashes in Minnesota, 3 injured

I'm don't know if it matters, but the pilot wasn't the regular pilot that flies this specific chopper. He was from a different Air Care region and so was the medical crew. I don't know if different aircraft of the same model have different gremlins or quirks? I'm not a pilot. And if was foggy...

    Personal Jump Bag

Nah bro, there's no steroids on our rigs.. You'd use mag to treat a pt with hypotension?

    Personal Jump Bag

I think the BLS you are used to isn't quite the same as what my trauma center is doing on an EMT-A level.. Considering placement of an invasive airway is part of our protocols. Unless it's a ped requiring an ET, our BLS can do just fine with a King on an adult. Antihistamines are PO, up to 50...

    Personal Jump Bag

I don't think it's too odd.. If the patient was exposed to a commonly recognized allergen and has resp distress OR a SBP <90, may administer .3 of 1:1000 IM... It's actually a BLS call here, unless for some reason you have to give an IV of dyphi, difin.... BENADRYL.. But I've always given...

Funny one liners you've said to overheard to a patient

Medic to EMT in the midst of buckling in a trauma patient: "You have adipose on your face.. Wait! I'm not saying you have a fat face or anything, you're not fat.. I mean it's like some got flicked up there."

EpiPen and AviQ is BLS here, I keep a few pens in my volly bag.. It's not an uncommon call for the volunteer EMR team.. The funny thing, is I'd have to check a SBP every time I'd give an EpiPen dose.. That's probably one of the only real reasons why I carry a cuff in my bag.

    Child Consent

So much yes in this post.. I'd rather defend myself in court for saving a life, than look in the mirror and know I chose not to, but could have.. It seems in my old age I base a lot of my decisions on how I will look myself in the mirror at the end of the day.

    First aid management of burns

I'm not quite understanding why it's necessary for an EMT to be able to accurately determine Parkland, or be worried about creep?? That's something that's beyond the scope of practice for an EMT.. I'm not going to have my patient for 24 hours, hopefully I can hand a severe burn victim off in...

    Atrovent for Pediatrics

We use terbutaline for peds 0.01mg/kg SC but only if the ped is in RA.. Once loaded, we use Atrovent (0.5) only with the first dose of Albuterol for a pt in mod/severe resp distress..

    What made you do it?

What made me do it? I saw this picture on the internet, and realized that these are my people, and I need this in my life: I did quit a good paying job to join EMS. But I realized that life is too short to spend it behind a desk, commuting, punching a time card while a millionaire...

    Flight Paramedic, Ask Me Anything

I've seen one of our HEMS crew push nurses aside in the ER and take over their crash cart.. Even though they *do* get paid a lot less for the same job, our air crews really command respect from HCPs. Probably because they walk into the ER like dis: My FTO did HEMS for a long time but...
