    Following up with hospitals

So, my belief is that the follow-up is an incredibly important part of the job application process. While there are exceptions, in general it is very important to separate one's application from the hordes. I have been running into a big problem with this. Namely, while applying for ER tech...

    Just Got hired.

Well done. Is this your first EMS job? How many other jobs did you apply to, and how long were you looking?

    First Interview

Congrats on getting the job. I recently had my first interview as well, waiting to hear back today. For future interviewees, I want to add one thing I haven't seen in most "how to prepare for interviews" topics: Prepare some good stories from your clinicals/ridealongs that show your medical...

Logic of BVM skill station sequence?

I totally agree & think you're right - but I still feel there has to be SOME reason the NREMT made the sheets the way they did. Even if it's purely academic, I am just trying to understand. I do appreciate the responses so far, but I am still not satisfied. Let me put my question a different...

Logic of BVM skill station sequence?

By "new AHA guidelines," are you referring to AB-CABS? I hadn't even heard of this until I just Googled for new guidelines. AB-CABS makes WAY more sense to me than the 2010 plain CAB guidelines.

Logic of BVM skill station sequence?

Hey everybody, My practicals are coming up on Monday - I feel well prepared, but there is something on the BVM skill sheet that's been bothering me because it doesn't seem to fit with the usual treatment sequence. The question is, why don't they ask you to open the pt's airway before the...

General, weird question about EMS, knowledge, and protocols/standing orders

Heh, not at all, in fact all of the replies are very helpful. Makes a lot of sense - the protocols and standing orders are guidelines and allow for flexibility depending on judgment. The scope of practice is what's rigid, but it only describes permissible treatments/interventions generally, not...

General, weird question about EMS, knowledge, and protocols/standing orders

Alright, so I am just wrapping up my EMT class this week, and I have been mulling a question. Keep in mind that this question is from someone with only book knowledge - it might not even make sense, because my premises could be wrong in the first place. In fact, they almost certainly are, but I...

First step in assessing unresponsive pt

Hello all. I am a few weeks in to my EMT-B class. We're using the AAOS book. I have a question about NREMT versus AHA guidelines in regard to unresponsive patients. Let's say that you have an unresponsive adult patient. The NREMT trauama/medical skills sequence (source: 2011 version, latest)...

Test question - first step after establishing that an adult pt is unresponsive

Hey everybody. I am a few weeks in to my EMT-B class (at Pima CC in Tucson, AZ). We're using the AAOS book. I recently missed a quiz question that I'd like to get some feedback on. The question is: "After establishing that an adult patient is unresponsive, you should: A) Open the airway B)...
