Not sure but that's a lot of time on your hands if your bagging your patient and able to stick that all in. Might want to figure out why you are bagging the pt and fix those prior to plugging all three openings, just my two cents.
Just read the article detailing the study of ALPS and continuous vs. traditional CPR. What I gather is that like many things I have witnessed in EMS and medicine is that it takes time to weed out the old guard(this is how I was trained). I have taught ACLS and PALS for the last few years and I...
TacEMT all of the ALS providers in the Bay Area are unionized. Both PPlus and Rural have agreed to the current contracts. It was a political move more than anything else, no way they would have gotten the ALS contract without agreeing to the union contract. As for the EMT/Medic that was late...
Rural Metro took on the union contract that AMR had for the folks in Santa Clara. They took all the medics that wanted to come over. Initially issues with how many EMT's were to come over. Yes Santa Clara field has had some issues with low moral. Previous General manager stated that moral...
There is nothing wrong with working IFT's as your first job. As some of the responses state you can learn a lot about your pt's history and their disease process. Also it is a good time to practice your assessment.
As for working at a 911 it will gain you exposure to how the system works...
Welcome to working in the City. Ask the company if they get a discount( highly unlikely still ask) or talk to the lot operator. Other options are using Muni depending where you are coming from.
Where on the Central Coast are you? You have AMR in Santa Cruz, Monterrey and Santa Barbara County, San Luis Ambulance in San Luis Obispo county. That's ALS for the Central Coast. Do not know of any BLS however that could have changed in the last few years.
Just had a class and it is atropine for all bradycardias. Not sure of the logic of giving atropine to a 3rd degree, wasting time I'd go straight with pacing. Can using a pressor as well
AMR is realigning there BLS into IFT divisions with the loss of Santa Clara and Alameda. Same folks different name. You can also add PT1 to the list as they are starting to become ALS in a few areas.
Right now there are more EMT's and medics than there are openings. Best thing is to put your application in with every company in the areas that you want to work and go from there.
Good Luck
With the amount of folks looking for work at this time starting off on an IFT might good thing. To tell you the truth IFT is where you are going to have the most patient contact. As a new EMT that is going to be crucial to your skills. 911 sounds all fun and everything when you just get out...
Right now there are more EMT's than job openings for transport companies. Don's feel bad it is the same for medic's as well.
In your neck of the woods you have AMR, Priority-one, and I think NorCal. Going in either of the four directions you have Medic, TLC, First Responder,Verihealth in...
Yes there are a s#@$ load of EMT's trying to find a job just like you. Same for medics. Finding a job will be tough, it will be a matter of persistence from you finding one. Apply everywhere. How far are you willing to travel? If your mom has been a RN as long as you say then use her...
