I'm assuming you're starting EMT? Don't spend money on books yet. You'll have all you need to complete the class in your text.

Instead, use the web to study basic medical terminology and find a review of high school level anatomy. That will give you a heads up on the rest of the class.

Yes i will be starting Emt through a volunteer fire department, Quick question how come its takes 4 months to get a member id to start training at the fire station, Thanks i will look into it

Learn words that specify location like proximal and distal. Inferior and superior. Medial and lateral.

This PowerPoint form the North Seattle CC EMT class is decent.

Start to learn the bones, the number of vertebrae, the basic body systems.

These two areas are usually at the beginning of most EMT classes and can be the most difficult portion of the class for new students.

It was suggested to me to read Thom ****'s (kciD spelled backwards - added by Chimpie) book People Care. Not so much of a must read to pass your classes but just an overall good book to read going into this field.

Agreed. Thom's book is great. I actually suggest reading it after you've been working for a few months. It gets you recentered.

Seconded. Best EMS book in existence.

There is a second edition now sold by EMS World. The first edition has become something of a collector's item, as I understand.

See?! The word filter just insulted Thom Di‍ck! I knew it had no place on an EMS board!

Seriously, though, you can work on being a better provider after you finish the EMT course. What you need to do now is figure out whether you should be an EMS provider at all. People Care might help with that.
